Amp for 6x9’s

  Skoda Fabia vRS

been thinkin of gettin an amp for those kicker 6x9s im gettin off dazz

what do you guys suggest my budget is tight, as always

speakers are 180W......90W RMS

looked at a Kenwood KAC 529S which is £60

i dunno much about ICE yet so i need advice plus i cant afford much

i got a 45Wx4 Kenwood H/U with 4.5V pre-outs

The Kennys good, but personally I would go for Alpine MRP-T130 240W 2Ch. mama which can be had for £59 from Car Electronics. Its got the quality that goes with having the Alpine name behind it, and although not the biggest amp on the market, it should be powerful enough to run your 6x9s very well indeed. Alternatively, if youre willing to stretch to £100, theres a good deal Rockford Fosgate Punch 120.2 from New Image Car Hifi. The ads are both in Max Power.

Yeah, that PG amp is peachy as well. I would say that Id choose the KAC629S over the Alpine, but in my experience Kenwood seem to overestimate their power ratings a bit, I find Alpine are more honest so although the KAC529s about the same sort of power on paper, my bet is the Alpines a touch punchier for the money. Kenwoods a newer model though. Still, probably better with the yank amps than either of em - PG, Kicker, RF, etc. You usually cant get your hands on a Phoenix amp for under a ton as well so that amp will make a bit of a bargain for someone seeing as its brand new.

My thoughts exactly, I know Kenwood overestimate...with the exception of Alpine and the Americans I think most brands seem to....

I would always take one of the yank ones though, they arent that much more but are a heck of a lot better!

I know of a Genesis Stereo 60 going cheap too...but I may have that!

so which do i go for, the older Alpine or the Kenny 529.....i have a Kenwood H/U

what about Pro Plus arent they cheap and quite good

It really is six and half-a-dozen between those two! I would say therefore that since your head-units Kenwood, purely on the basis of brand-matching, you should opt for the Kenwood. The fact that its a newer model is a plus too.

I would seriously go for the PG one on eBay mate...

But if you have to buy brand new etc, then I would take the Kenwood.

If you have 4.5v pre-outs on your HU it is clearly decent, so a decent amplifier would do it more justice...hence the PG one.

well i just looked mate and the Kenny is 40W RMS and the Alpine 50W

wouldnt i be better gettin the more powerful Alpine, or cos the Kenny is newer might it be just as good or better

do u use MSN mate u know wot ur on about

that PG is only 35W x 2 RMS

i would rather buy a new one TBH unless its from someone i know

Hmm, well in that case Id say the Alpine edges it (again if the Phoenix Gold QX100s not a possibility - it might be 35W RMS but all three of these amps draw 15A of current, so theyre going to be damn similar!), as its not an old model, as Id thought, either - its actually part of the V12 range. Just has a strange model designation (ie. MRP instead of MRV).

o an another thing, would it make that much difference if i managed to get the Kenny 629, thats 60W RMS in comparison to the 529s 40W RMS

would it be worth the extra £40 bearin in mind id struggle to afford it ?

No, I take that back! Check the specs of the Alpine carefully - its only 50W RMS at 2 Ohms! The Kenwoods quoted at 4 Ohms. Youd be as well tossing a coin!

Hmm, if its going to be £40 more for the 629 then Id go for the Rockford Punch 120.2 at the same money. Otherwise, youre as well sticking to the smaller Kenwood or Alpine, as £60 is a bargain price for both of these.

mate do u use ANY chat prog, i need to talk to ya, or i can keep postin if ur stayin

if its between those then id go for the kenny defo just to keep brands same

should i stick £40 on my credit card and get the 629 ?

Seriously mate, the Kenwood would be the best bet if you arent interested in the PG one. AS for the PG only kicking out 35 WRMS, ignore that IME of yank amps you are looking at least 20% more than that figure, whereas the Kenwood one is likely to be about 20% less than the quoted!

I wouldnt bother spending the extra on the bigger Kenwood though as you start a vicious cycle, get what is adequate - if you arent amping anything else in the car then too much will become overpowering, even with the gain turned right down.

well that Kenwood 529 isnt suitable, its got a fixed low pass crossover for subs, bugger

i can get a Pro Plus V400 for £85
thats 65W RMS at 4ohm too

what you think guys

i got a deal on a Kicker IX402 with a wirin kit for £95 delivered so ive gone for that

Yeah, excellent amp that Impulse one, and you know its louder than the rating cos Kicker rate low for competition purposes. Where did you get that deal from cos thats pretty cheap? Also, what gauge of cable is that wiring kit youre getting? Im thinking of getting rid of my Genesis stereo amp and getting something with a low/hi-pass filter so I dont have to use an extra x-over.

ive bought it second hand from Darren (RSC Chairman)

includes a Kicker RCA lead too

i should have it monday, so ill b takin all my stuff down to K&M Acoustics for them to modify my shelf and attach it all, then ill have to sort the wires for amp ready for when its done

i cant wait to hear how it sounds
