£30k to spend, what performance car?

No problems with CAT D in my book. Buy cheap sell cheap.
Yes & no.
To Cat D a £2k Clio doesnt take much (50% is £1k), so i agree wholeheartedly, i've had a few Cat C/D's.
On a Cayman R, that will always have been worth £40k+, you're looking at least £20k of damage, which well, is a bit more than a wing.
Unless you see pictures of it damaged/stripped down/repaired, i wouldn't go there. This looked "ok" on the outside for example, but the state of it underneath: http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=162007 😂

C63 like I've just done!

You'll get a decent facelift for that money though.

100% agree.
It would have to have evidence of work done, receipts or otherwise no sale. Not to mention the general common sense involved when checking it out. I'd love to get one off ASM or Co-part and repair it myself though!

Ford focus, Renault clio :sleeping::sleeping::sleeping::sleeping:

Add a few k, live a little and get an early Aston V8 Vantage, Nissan GTR R35, Maserati Gran Turismo. If you've got 30k cash I'm sure £2000 on disc/pads or putting a few k aside for a clutch is no biggie.

The V6 for me!! Banker for holding value and a massive head turner when driven!

Whoa for one like me who can't afford an iPhone will have to stick to a Clio 182 Trophy with 42,000 mileage and worth about £6,000 after ten years. Not yet failed an MOT, 0-60mph 6.3 sec. Average 33 mpg driving in urban area at 16mph. I must be a fool. :tonguewink:

GTR R35 is still £36k+
I am liking the Porsche 996 Carrera 4s, I am aware of the issues with the engines and the high prices of Porsche's parts division.

Clio v6
E92/e90 m3 not clued up on beemers
Mk2 focus rs
Audi rs4
C63 amg if looked after amd low owners and not black on black s**t
R33 gtr skyline
Evo 5/6

Apologies if the question comes across a little idiotic.
But what performance car could you recommend that will not lose more than 5% of its value in 6 months to a year of ownership?

I went for this, and it was £10k under your budget from a main dealer. I've had it nearly 6 months and if anything it's worth the same as the day I bought it, maybe more? I know they're a bit of an unknown for future values, but it bodes well that the E46 is climbing, as well as this being the only V8 M3 they did with an "F1 Derived" high revving engine.

I've always wanted a 911, I went to buy one, ended up with this. The dealer warranty was a massive plus, as was the fact its so bloody good to drive. And fast, oh so fast. Hope this helps!

Other options I'd look into is a Porsche 911, possibly a 997 C2S. But for values, the 996 C4S is going north and I dont see it slowing down any time soon. It's a bit of an awkward budget for something that'll go up, £50k there are a lot more modern performance cars that are going up. I just forced my friend into a Boxster Spyder actually!

Thanks Jason! Unfortunately I did a quote on these for when I turn 21 in a couple of months and its over £5k. C63 and porsches are only £1800 so its weird. I have really taken to a 996 carrera 4s. Spoke to porsche owners today and they said ideally get a c2s 996 if I find one.

Wouldn't go for a C2S, the C4S is deffo the one to go for. Turbo body & rear reflector strip make it much more special.

You have a lot of money for a 20 year old! Jeesh!

Odd as the C4S was a lot more for me! I use specialist brokers (Sky Insurance currently, although Brentacre on one of my cars as its "classic").

100% go for a 996 C4S if you can. Stunning cars, going up in value.

Chris knott are very good for insurance or at least gave been for me and aviva.

I think you have to be an old man for them?

For reference I'm 24 and the M3 was about £900 this year I think. .

Erm..............quite possibly lol. Id be happy with £900 on an m3 at 41.been with chris knott for about 10 years on and off, but every now and then aviva seem to come up with good qoutes so i switch to them.

Brentacre and sky have never got near chris knott for me. Chris knotts hava always used highways.

I'll have to try them next time then! Sounds good. I struggled with the classic policy on the Golf cos of my age.

Kinda off topic here, but insurance chat may help your decision lol.

What was I thinking about the C2S of course C4S lol. I love the turbo body. Hopefully these wont increase to much by the end of this year. So I can get one for a good price on my insurance renewal.

I'm hoping they don't go up too much. Really want one but wouldn't sell the V6 for one. If they keep going up they will be out of reach within 12 months.
