Sids Inferno 182 cup progress thread

Car  182 cup
After a couple of months looking for a inferno or black gold 1*2, I stumbled upon this 182 cup that had a few desirable bits and thought I would take a bimble to have a ganders. I had popped a tonne on it to hold it as all the decent ones seem to disappear before I can get there. Luckily it was as described by the chap bar a few small bits that I managed to negotiate on upon arrival.

As the sun set on route home the heater control illuminations failed to join the party. So that was first on the agenda for today simple fix 2x bulbs from your local harry Halfords. Job done.

It’s in pretty good nick and some one has spent the dosh at some point. However it’s crying for some love.

Immediate plans are to get the dent wizard out to correct 2 very Slight dings. Get fuel cap area sorted very early onset of blistered paint . I looked at 5 of these some very low mileage they all seem to be going this way. Detail it to death and get it up in the air to see what clobber is fitted, not many if any of the mods were advertised.

I will leave this here for now and update when I get amoungst it this week.

Ah ok, not heard that before lol.

Is it rusting around the cap area? One of lads had that issue on his trophy.

I loved my inferno, such a nice colour

Is a nice colour it won’t see many miles and it’s dry stored now. I think the area will just need treating and protecting as the paint hasn’t broken ect.

Picture of affected for clarity. Of course the price was negotiated when this was discovered. regardless think I would have Bought it as It was easily the better of the 5 I had viewed.

So managed to put a few miles on the 182 this week. I checked all levels to ensure all was ok when to my supprise the coolant appeared to have dropped. Topped up went on a jolly and confirmed that I was loosing coolant with no obvious leaks it was time to stat thinking.
Sniff test passed and with no evidence of contaminated coolant or oil I quickly moved on to tracing the leak. As the outdoor temp took a dive I noticed a slight steaming coming from the bottom hose joint of rad. Simple fix jubilee clip to go on.

Goodridge braided lines to be fitted when the weather warms up.

New expansion tank ordered to be fitted once Iam happy the system is water tight bargain in the euro car parts sale at £11 delivered

Picked up some night breakers this morning due to failed bulb. best get the lenses squared away as they aren’t in the best shape.

Had intentions of detailing today got waylaid due to my ocd kicking in when tidying the interior. Someone’s spilled a suspected hazelnut latte down the ash tray area so had to start picking the interior apart to square that also the treadlines also needed digging out.

Fog lamps hadbeen tinted with yellow film that was stubborn to get off being from the max power generation stubborn stickers are my speciality. K tec sticker also scrapped.

Night breakers fitted. Slow progress on the 182 but the daily got a good polish.

Also decided the mini has to go so I can properly commit to the 182.

Took some time this evening to make head way on the headlights. They look ten times better than they did. Will pop by my mates shop in the morning to blast them with the mop as a finishing touch.

Really trying to source a good upper grille as mine has been painted and is missing the two middle clips and generally now looks shitty. Worst case it will be a new unit from RPD

Good friend and a go to classic mini man Martyn was more than happy to brandish and demonstrate his new polishing weapon of choice. With a healthy helping of g3 glade the lights are looking fresh.

With all my odds and sods turning up on Friday I had to get on with some bits. Coolant changed for the Type D stuff. Swapped out the bottom spring clip for a jubilee, this should see to the leak that was coming from the joint.

Only really dropped 4 of the 7 litres so it’s going to take anouther drain and refill for the coolant to stay nice and green I think as the other stuff was bright pink. Despite flushing with hose pipe.

New expansion bottle on. makes the world of difference imo best tenner you could spend on one of these.

While all was out I took the opportunity not tidy up the bulk head and matting.

Bumper off to address the wonky lower grille few clips re secured and that’s a good job done.

While the bumper was off replace the blown fog lamp bulbs

After all that pissing around I needed a morale boost so popped my new rear number plate lamp in.

With this said and done today I treated HoNeY to a wash concentrating on the arch lips and inner fuel filler cap area to clear any collected rubbish that holds the water. Seald the area with a nice waxy spray. This will need a revisit at some point in the future but on a whole it’s very solid so am not concerned.

It's quite hard to get absorbed by your thread how you are attaching images as thumbnails. Would you be able to display them as full size when you upload as it looks like there's some good progress here.

Shorter plate arrived Friday much to my dismay it was tiny. Checked out my order thank god i ordered the right size and pro plates sent the wrong size. After a quick call to them a new front plate arrived the next day. Looking forward to getting them on

Just FYI, the filler cap rust will need the cap and filler neck removing, cleaning and treating inside and out, it comes from mud and crap sat on the filler neck, its quite a pain of a job to do!

Managed to see a few images of people carrying out similar repairs on their 182s does look to be a pain in the arse but I imagine they will all be going this way. It’s planned in for the summer. Luckily I know a great restorer that I got to know through the mini scene will try and twist his arm to do it.

Pic of the old mini for interest

After a few days it was time to head south to pick up the car from the guys at ED.
Delighted with the results, she’s come off the dyno at 196 BHP and made good gains in the torque department.

Overall I am delighted with the service from ED and would recommend them highly to anyone. The car feels completely different to drive, more responsive than ever with gains across the board.

Very happy with the car at present and I don’t have further plans to enhance performance at present.
