Slight misfire, timing related?

  2003 Clio 172
So I had my belts changed last week and since then the car has a very slight misfire just below 2000 revs which dissappears when the engine is up to temperature. From reading through various threads on here the symptoms seemed to match the timing potentially being out slightly. Car has been back at garage since Tuesday and they have been unable to find anything wrong with it. I asked if they had physically checked the timing and they told me they didn't need to as car had been hooked up to diagnostic computer and the cam timing, dephaser etc were fine on there. I didn't think you could check the timing via diagnostics. Am I being fed a line? The garage is a reputable renault specialist so I'd like to think they know what they're doing but the fact they haven't felt the need to visually check the timing sounds a bit odd.

You can look at map reading at idle and that gives you a pretty good idea on cam timing.

Ah fair enough I didn't know that. They've suggested it may be a slightly sticky injector and to try some fuel additive to see if that helps. All their other tests have come back fine too.

As an update, they've manually checked the timing today and it was spot on. They've also done a load of diagnostic work for some niggling electrical faults (traction control sensor fault and central locking not working, which turned out to be dodgy key) and are only charging an hours labour. Fair play :)(y)
