Can it be fixed?

My Petrol Blue clio has some rust and dents on the bonnet. I've heard that you cannot get a single panel sprayed in petrol blue you must get the whole car resprayed is this true?

Probably a tough colour to match.

Bonnet and front wings. Depending on bumper condition that too

Do your homework and take it to a top professional. Someone who knows what they are doing will be able to blend it in absolutely no problem.

Getting a match is a nightmare for Petrol Blue so don't trust anyone who can only go off the paint code. The first time my mate did my filler cap he did it by eye and took 6 attempts !

Not that it would help as every one is different but if @MLB still has my paint card he can tell you the colours and manufacturers that mine was based off to give you a hand.

Hi,

Common rust area on Clio 2 bonnets. I had mine repaired (Artic Blue) but was warned the corrosion would come back because of the design of the bonnet. I got the front bumper painted at the same time, and they blended the bonnet in with the wings. Cost in 2017 was roughly £300.

The corrosion has now come back along the bonnet leading edge in several places. My long term solution is to replace the whole bonnet, providing they remain available

Thanks,

Do you know if this bonnet is any good or is it better to get a second hand one. Or should I try and get a new one from my local renault dealer?

The Platinum bonnet from Eurocarparts is supposed to be good quality.

Thanks for the reply, The Eurocarparts bonnet looks like a much better quality than the one I saw on Ebay. Thanks for sharing 😃

Don't forget to use the discount code weekend37 and it's only £157 or maybe the next code will be even more off if you hang on.

A mate of mine has had his PB fully resprayed because he's a massive pervert

I can tell you it wasn't cheap from what he said to me 😂

More expensive than the original option I assume? ;)

Is it as good as the original though?

I'll wait until there's a better discount code around, there's no rush really with no bodywork/paint shops open anyway 😂. Thanks

If the corrosion has come back already, my guess is that they didn't originally get rid of the rust. Rather than just sanding it, you need to dig it out. The best way to do this is to paint strip it back fully to bare metal to expose the rust spots and sand them out. That way you have a fresh base to start with, going forward.

You will never eliminate rust once it starts merely slow it down.
The rust on the bonnet edge comes from the inside out so only way to solve it would be to cut it out and weld in new metal but then you run the risk of warping the bonnet from heat.

Get the bonnet from euro. Blend into the wings and do the front bumper aswel to eliminate the stone chips there whilst you are on.
Once it's all done you need to spray cavity wax into the new bonnet getting into all of the edges. It will then last.
