Birchdown Auto Services

Is this still the place to take it? Have bought the brakes so I will need them fitting. Previous owner told me the belts were done at 61k (now75) I want them checking for condition. The whole car needs checking over thoroughly. I took it out at 2am the other night and hammered it, proppa let it off, seems very strong and fast! Tyres and brakes are pretty scary though. The tyres need replacing immediately really, but I want some turini wheels and michelin's so that can wait for now as it's a grand + And the aircon needs sorting badly. Or deleting completely. I hope it can be sorted tho.

I am in Glossop, Derbyshire. Birchdown are an hour 30 away. I will take it anywhere and I don't mind leaving it in, up to a week, so long as it gets checked over properly and looked at by experts.

I have searched other threads and they're 5 years old or don't work.

Road tax price may vary, please see DVLA for more information.

Birchdown or Diamond motors. I've used both. 6 hour round trip for me to Diamond motors only about 3 hours to Birchdown.
Both will sort out any problems or jobs that need doing with no BS.
Whichever you use you'll probably have to wait a few weeks as they're both usually very busy.

Not used Diamond but my Clio is going to Birchdown for service and MOT soon!

Just been with Mick at Diamond, 2nd cambelts work done (had the car 10 years!). Only issue with Mick is because he is that good, there is a waiting list for him. I've just booked in Clutch replacement and that is first week in August if you are able to wait for the big stuff, go with Mick...he is 5 min walk from train Station and you can go either Derby or Nottingham for something to do while Mick works his magic. If you do want to contact Mick, use the live chat thing on his website as he is normally stuck under or inside a car working.

You won't regret it.

Have fired off an email to Diamond last night. I just want the full car checked over completely. All the fluids changed. Air-con sorting. And new brakes fitting (arrived this morning). I may take it to a local garage for the brakes because I can't wait until August! Clearly not been shown much love in the past even if it is low mileage. The tyres and brakes are awful. Trying to blag my mum to tick me some turinis from wheel base so I can pay monthly LOL

Want them in gold 😍

Never used either but have been on forum since 2002 and never heard any negative comments on birchdown just positive.
The time they have been going and recommended should tell you everything you need to know.
Unlike the MANY MANY flavour of the month clio tuners who have come and gone on this forum over the years🤔

Also they have never needed to post on here all the time to advertise/generate buisiness .

Used Birchdown for Ten years now. I’m there tomorrow to drop the car off for belts and various bits.

@HardcoreJunglist - if your brakes are that bad - it might be worth looking into a refurb and into the brake lines themselves?

Your car is now 15 years old and been subjected to all the crap that the road has to chuck up. My brakes were woeful - though the actual discs and pads were fine. I had all four callipers refurbed and the brake lines replaced. Some were that brittle that they simply snapped in half with little effort.

I have a hell of a lot more confidence in stopping the car and even under normal driving conditions, just covering the brakes and taking the edge off some speed is a lot more obvious now.

@Darren S Thye are pretty bad mate. I'm not a mechanic so I can only compare to cars I've had or drove in the past. They are not unsafe or anything like that because they do stop the car, but they just do not inspire confidence, at all. The tyres I'm rolling on are bullshit so I am sure they are playing their part in this.
I mean there is nothing actually wrong with the car, it has an MOT, it turns, it goes and it stops. But like you say, it's a 15 year old car, things are on the way out and things have probably gone already. That's why I want it looked at by experts who will identify and fix any problems they come across.

Here's a couple quick shots, you can see just how fooked they are! The rear discs especially, had a thick layer of krust all round the edge which most of it has now fell off, but you can still see a bit there. Really the worst discs I've ever seen on any car! When I said about the brakes and the three dash lights for abs, traction and service he was pretty sure it's them thats causing it. I've gone for standard Brembo pads all around. Brembo HC front discs, Renault OE rears, with abs rings and bearings. The two spacers needed for the rears. And HEL braided steel lines. May be the calipers, may be the hard lines or fluid or something? One thing for sure, it's a guessing game until a mechanic sees it.

I just want it bringing back to its former glory. Once I know it's safe I will have it tested for power and remapped. Then I'll get on with sorting the interior and bodywork and all that tackle.

These boys are respected so I am sure they will sort it out for me :)

They look pretty tired best I can see. What are the rears like ? Disks, pads and fluid change should make a massive difference
