182 Air Conditioning Seals - Part Numbers?

Hi all,

This year I'm determined to have working AC for the one week of summer we get. I'm going to go through and replace all of the seals before recharging it else I'm sure it'll probably leak out within a week.

I'm struggling to find the right part numbers though. I understand I need to order two seal kits - one with standard o rings, and another with the larger/wider seals. I've found the o ring kit at RPD (link), but I'm not sure about the second. RPD have a listing for a similar looking type of seal to what I need (link), but they only list compatibility with the MK2 Megane. I've had a search through the forum but haven't found what I'm looking for.

Can anyone please confirm the part number for the second seal kit I need? And the best place to source it from?

Also if anyone has a list of the seal locations within the AC system that'd be much appreciated. Or maybe there's a guide in the members area I could sign up to access?

Cheers,
Nathan

Here's a pic of the type of seal I'm struggling to find (borrowed from off here!).

I have had quite a lot of trouble finding seals like that when I was reinstalling my ac. In the end reused some old ones I had which luckily were in better condition than yours.

They do look a lot like these Megane seals. Maybe worth taking exact measurements and messaging the seller on ebay?

Edit: just seen you already had the kit linked from RPD.

I don't think there's an exact guide on which seal/o-ring goes where and you only seem to need a third of the o-rings from the first kit anyway. I just took off the old ones and replaced with similar looking ones fro the kit and has been holding gas for a couple of months now.

Just make sure you've got some pag46 oil to oil the seals before installing the pipes and prefill the system.

Not just me then, I've struggled to find them anywhere! Think I'll do as you said and see if I can get some rough measurements off the eBay seller. Your link for them is fairly cheap (compared to RPD) so it might be worth a punt if it sounds like they're in the ballpark.

Cheers @MarcB - I'll take a look on eBay for the o ring kit, better price than RPD by the time you've put shipping on too.

I got recommended the Megane ones I believe but can't find where anymore. Hope you get it sorted.

I can't wait for some hot days now I've got ac again.

@MLB just seen your update about pag46 oil, good tip, cheers for that. Was wondering what would be appropriate to use for assembly lube. Not knowing what seal material is used in these systems I didn't want to stick something on which would destroy them over time!

No worries.

Is your system still in place and filled with oil?

A new compressor should come pre filled with oil, otherwise the system takes a total of 135ml of oil.

Replacement of pipe after that is add 10ml, dryer 15ml and condenser 30ml.

Yeah system is still in place and full of oil, but that's some useful info if I find a hole in the condenser or similar, so thanks! Got an old vacuum pump here which I'll use to test the system if I can get it working!

After a bit more digging I did find a thread on here which recommended the Mégane seals for use on the Clio, so I've got them on order.

Will update this thread when I get around to fitting (although that might actually have to be after I've got my aux belt replaced as I've just realised it's due!).

Haven't fitted any parts yet, but have had the old seals off and compared em to the new seals. They seem to be exactly the same part so I'd say the Mégane seals are suitable for use on the Clio compressor lines.

The old seals are a bit of a pain to take off as they have a metal ring inside the rubber and are quite a tight fit to the AC pipe. Add to that there was a bunch of corrosion and dried up oil crap holding mine on. Gently gripping them with a set of mole grips and twisting them off seemed to do the trick though.

Yep they're a perfect fit, definitely the right part.

Can be a little awkward to install. The trick is to clean everything up until it's spotless, then:

  • Add plenty of PAG oil over the faces which will slide over eachother.
  • Grip the outside of the seal with a microfibre cloth or similar.
  • Slide the seal on with a twisting motion - no way it'll go just trying to shove it straight on.

Great to see this as I couldn't find the seals anywhere either. Might be worth turning this into a guide? I had my 172 regassed but it only lasted a couple of months so think il replace all the seals like yourself 👍

Glad it helped mate. The system is actually quite simple to be fair so not a technically hard job. Most of the seals are quite easy to access, you'll just need to have the front bumper off to get the access you need.

Just realised the part numbers aren't actually written down in this thread, so I'll put em here to help the search function out:

The "wide" seals which go on the compressor connections are Renault part number: 7701208148

These are listed on RPD as a Mégane part, but they're definitely right for the 182. I imagine the 172 is exactly the same.

You'll also need the o-ring kit for the remaining seals, Renault part number: 7701207465

I'm tempted to try and change the seals myself. Is there a guide on this? I never worked on the AC system so far so don't wanna mess smth up!
Thx!

Really helpful 😁

I ordered the seals from RPD expecting the wide seals to be included, but as you say, they're just the O rings.

Just ordered a set of the Mégane seals as my system has a leak somewhere so I'll replace the lot.

Great stuff!

Small little bump here- can anyone make a small guide into replacing all the seals in the AC system and where are they located?
Thx!
