Are Brembo brake pads supposed to be crap?

  Titanium Clio 182FF
Hi all, I have put a new set of discs and pads up front on my 182, the brake pads are Brembo P 68 027 pads that I bought from Spareto (they say made in China on the box, and I know they're the budget Brembo pads but still), and my brakes don't bite amazingly at any temperature, and they overheat very quickly and begin to stink and fade on the street after a bit of spirited driving, they also feel wooden and like there's almost no feedback from the pedal. I have done a 4-corner brake bleed with fresh fluid. My old 1.4 8v with 1.4 16V 259mm vented discs and calipers even with cheap pads felt much better, a nice bite and progressive feeling in the pedal, I miss the feeling those brakes had. Could it be the pads, or something else perhaps? I didn't rebuild the calipers so they could also be sticking slightly.

yes the cheap Brembo pads sold by everyone like ECP now are just cheap Chinese pads where they have licenced the Brembo name to sell them.

Mintex M1144 have always been my go to pads for a fast road Clio, i believe they have have been replaced with something newer but I've not researched it
As above the cheap brembo are poor.

I had a set of trw pads in mine that were excellent for stock. Cant remember the exact part number sadly. Failing that go for a performance upgrade.
Another vote for M1144 for a road car
Thanks, glad I wasn't imagining things! As for the Mintex, I don't think that's sold in South Africa, what's readily-available:
1. Febi-Bilstein (I'm going to assume that's also a Chinese rebrand and will be just as crap), the picture doesn't even show a split pad design
2. Hella (didn't even know they made anything but headlights, probably another rebrand)
3. Meyle (probably yet another rebrand)
4. Surebrake, a South African brand from my research that doesn't have great reviews on the VW forums here for their pads.

So I'm going to have to make a few phone calls, but if I can find Ferrodo DS2500s or any other non-economy pads, I'll take it over this crap! Hell, I'll call Renault agents and see what they have to offer, how good would you say the OE pads are and who makes them?

I've been using trw pads on my 182 for years, just for fast road and I rate them highly.
I really don't get why people rave about Mintes M1144s. I didn't rate them for stopping and they squealed like a pig slowly down for traffic lights.

I really rated the trw, any idea on part number? I done 3 trackdays on a set and they were excellent for a road pad. Actually worked loads better than the pbs i changed them for.

Not sure if there have been problematic batches or what not but my 1144s don’t squeal and compared to OEM that I had before they stop really well.

I followed the usual bed in procedure on a private road 😛

This was years ago, when everyone knew that they squealed. I've been using TRWs ever since. Personally I think they're a much better pad.
