Yep, it’s done nothing at all however i’ve just dropped the box oil and it’s not paint matched to the car so i don’t know what the issue is.Just to confirm, you have disconnect the gear linkage and tried to get it into reverse directly on the gearbox selector?
@NorthloopCup ?It may be a job for a specialist i’m nowhere near equipped to take out a box and rebuild it.
that’s what i’m thinking to doing. Just out of curiosity, how much would that cost and where abouts are you based? If you get the box out, I’ll open it up and see what’s going on mate. At least that way you’ll know if you’re looking for a replacement box.
Drop me a pm mate and we can discuss itthat’s what i’m thinking to doing. Just out of curiosity, how much would that cost and where abouts are you based?
It’s definitely been fighting me a lot, seems to be everything i look at seems to highlight even more issues with it. I am quite worried to see what pulling the box will reveal. It’s already revealed that someone’s been messing with it before as the mount bolts were loose. Same as the mount bolts when i was doing the belts. You've really been thrown in the deep end with this car haven't you! Feel for you mate but you'll be a much more knowledgeable enthusiast at the end if you stick with it!
Don't, I feel guilty enough as it isWhat dodgy seller did you buy it off ?![]()
If it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure my box is going to pop as soon as I get out on track, it's the only thing I've not rebuilt at this point. It’s definitely been fighting me a lot, seems to be everything i look at seems to highlight even more issues with it. I have been so tempted to give up and get rid of it so many times but i can’t bring myself to do it. I’m as lucky as im unlucky with this car. I’ve lost all patience for it, it’s a pain working on it at this point. Hopefully, i can get it on the road without much more going wrong. i doubt that but we can hope.
Nothing to be guilty about at all, not your fault that it’s a 26 year old Renault that’s been sat for so long and not had most bits replaced.Don't, I feel guilty enough as it is
I never undid any mount bolts though, so no idea why they were loose
Sorry if I'm being stupid, but why can't you manually stick it in gear on the box end. And start the car up and see if it's making that noise?More issues, with the Clio. Alarm keeps going off at half 9 this morning. i think the batteries gone flat and has now decided to constantly keep the alarm going. I’m thinking off throwing another battery on it and seeing how it goes.
As for the linkages, i’m currently trying that but i obviously can’t try it without the engine running. Even more proof this car has a curse against it.
It’ll stick with it no matter what, i can’t sell it mainly as it’s in bits but also as i’ve never driven it. I have also said, i’ll never sell my first car, one of the reasons i bought it as i’ve wanted one for ages so it won’t be leaving anytime soonIf it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure my box is going to pop as soon as I get out on track, it's the only thing I've not rebuilt at this point.
Someone is selling jc5-129 with LSDs on here
If you do as much of the work yourself you'll at least be left with something close to perfect without too big a bill when you're done! And they hold their value well these ph1s! Stick with it, you'll learn so much in the process.
I haven’t tried it but as there’s no drive in reverse i reckon the issue is deep within the box.Sorry if I'm being stupid, but why can't you manually stick it in gear on the box end. And start the car up and see if it's making that noise?
But that's my point going back to my post the other day. If it's linkage related and it's not in gear properly unless since we last spoke you've tried it?I haven’t tried it but as there’s no drive in reverse i reckon the issue is deep within the box.
Yeah, i get what your saying but i’ve had the shifter realigned and it’s basically perfect inside the car and it’s fixed the issue with the forward gears so i think that if it’s fixed them it should have fixed reverse too.But that's my point going back to my post the other day. It's very easy to condemn something but sometimes you have to explore absolutely every avenue first.
What I'm alluding to is if your linkage is not correct, you won't get a proper gear at all as it won't select one at the box end. So you could quite easily say the box is bad because you haven't got the whole truth of it.
If you manually click the box into gear at the box end, with linkage disconnected - that will reveal all.
Ahhhh fair enough mate sorry I must have missed that where you said about the forward gears, that changes things then!Yeah, i get what your saying but i’ve had the shifter realigned and it’s basically perfect inside the car and it’s fixed the issue with the forward gears so i think that if it’s fixed them it should have fixed reverse too.
Having said that, the linkage could still be to fault but im swaying more towards the box issue. Anyways, I’ll end up replacing the linkage when the box comes out just to rule out everything at once. May do a clutch too, depending on bank balance
I am putting it down to this tbh.Im so confused.
So have you tried manually selecting each and every gear with the linkage completely detached from the box?
Shifters are notoriously difficult to align, being out half a mm can render a gear selection unusable, regardless of all other gears going in.
Ask me how I know.
possibly it’s definitely had the box out before 100%, probably had a clutch but i’m not sure. there’s 0 paper work prior to 2018.Be weird for the box to be bad, unless it's not the original 56k mile box?
Or them sitting for 8 years ruins the boxes aswell![]()
I should have tried it but it’s now in many bits as i suspected the box. Both me and my mechanic mate think it’s some kind box issue.Im so confused.
