The Power PC Thread [f*ck off consoles]

Some pretty "cool" results from nVidia's DLSS5 (I say "cool" because it's a very divisive technology right now, and the hacks doing the rounds are unofficial).

The internet is awash with comparisons at the moment. What with DLSS4.5 RR as well it's an interesting time. At least for folks with (higher end) nVidia RTX GPUs. 🫣:ROFLMAO:
i downloaded DLSS4.5 at the weekend, not that it will make a blind bit of difference to my 3070ti.... :ROFLMAO:

Stayed up till midnight last night to order this šŸ˜‚ and then it didn't even come on until this morning.

Arrives tomorrow, very excited! Should make my new set up relatively complete 😁

Same mate! Ordered it this morning :) I took the additional warranty as well as it's still considerably cheaper than LG's version.

What card are you driving it with?

I didn't see that option as I had a dog licking my face at the time and was rushing šŸ˜‚ how much extra was it?

I'm running a 5090 but laptop version on my legion i7 pro. I don't think there's a better laptop card out there right now so hoping it will be okay for cad and some verrrry old games haha

The laptop 5090 GPU should be fine! It's equivalent to ~4070/5070TI desktop GPU (but with tighter power constraints) so should run nicely.

It was about £68 I think pal. Still a 3 year warranty but covered more options. I know it definitely covered burn-in but not sure if the standard did.

Yeah think the standard has 3 year burn in which is good!

I'm still a bit confused if my set up I intend to use will work.

I want to run a USB hub to one of the ports on the monitor, this is a u green switch 2 in 7 out or something like that.
Chatgpt was pretty useless and says it wouldn't work.
Then I intend on just using 1 singular USB c to the monitor to the laptop for a one cable use (aware high demanding games I would need power plugged in too!)

I can't see why that usb hub won't work!

You need to confirm what resolution and refresh rate the hub can pass through If it matches, or exceeds, your monitor then all is good.

What wattage is your laptop charger? The monitor will charge up to 90w through usb c at the same time as passing the display signal the other way. It’s the same as what mine does.

To use the usb hub on the monitor you will more than likely have to use another cable from the laptop to get it to work.

Thanks mate! Will see how it goes tomorrow
@dann2707 I don't know about you mate but I feel like a kid on Xmas eve 🤣
10000%.
Just been working on a 1080p monitor and feel like my eye balls have left the chat. Bring on tomorrow 😁

Can confirm it’s faster than my 4070ti super desktop by about 5%. I have 64gb ram in mine but at 2k it has no problem running modern AAA games! Do you have yours set to run off the ā€˜dGPU’ only or hybrid? Any games run off dgpu only.

That's good to know! Erm I'm not too sure, where do you find that out?
In Legion Space, unfortunately šŸ˜…There's a nice big ad banner that possibly can be removed or alternative software that I haven't tried yet (Lenovo Legion Toolkit) I run balanced mostly then a custom setup when I'm testing my software.

I have the Lenova Vantage widget on the desktop as well.

All of the included Lenova tools feel a bit 'bloatware', but it does the trick for now.

I don't think it's coming today now sadly!

Apparently as expected there was a huge request for them.

I will be surprised if it's this week now 😬 someone said if you order now they expect a delivery date of December looool

Balls! Mine says 9th October now :(

That sucks. I cleared everything up today ready to install

I literally just received the same email.

That is a proper bummer mate 😭😭 holy s**t they properly fucked that up didn't they

You would think a company that's been trading for 40 odd years would do better eh!

How are you coping without the screen? I had completely forgot until today that i'd ordered it which is a nice little reminder haha

Yeah not too bad mate. I've still got a pretty good monitor anyway like! I've noticed I haven't bumped up any places though

The world has gone mad! Just looked up the current pricing on my GPU....!!!!!:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Thank f**k I was able to get one early on.

However, I still have a dilemma. Prices aren't coming down anytime soon and I am looking to upgrade the rest of my system. I did make a start months back but my ordered CPU was DOA. I never went further, and I am regretting it now! I don't need everything, but do need the big ticket items - CPU, motherboard, RAM. Normally, I would bite the bullet and know that it would pay for itself through work; but over a year out of work now and several thousand quid is hard to justify.

Surely your current system is already running DDR5 RAM, or is just that you need more?

I didn’t think the other parts had really moved price wise.

No mate - for the massive memory-bandwidth-heavy workloads (CPU-side) I have been involved with, the better option has been my HEDT quad-channel DDR4, hence why I have stuck with it for 10 years! The quad-channel can still outperform the DDR5 in specific cases, but not in more general and widespread use. The problem with HEDT and X299 is that it really locks you in to a HEDT ecosystem; and an upgrade means replacing all the big ticket items, along with the supporting parts (watercooling, etc).

Mate I'm so glad I bought mine when I did. I paid £1950 and the same one is on Scan for £4,500 now. Even £1950 made me sweat at the time! :ROFLMAO:
