182 into 172 cup?

Will a 182 engine be fine as a replacement for a 172 engine?... They are the same arent they and will fit no problem?... Exhaust manifold from the 172 cup would fit fine wouldn’t it?

It's the same engine, it's only the manifold that's different, and that will not fit onto the standard exhaust without some modifications.

Yep Fred, getting a virtually brand new 182 engine and clutch put in there.... i wont be able to sell my cup with the noise its making really... runs perfect, love it, but sounds like a tractor at idle.. really got an itch for another car and this is holding me up... once engines done it will be up for sale and in tip top condition for its new owner woo :)

you dont need a new engine mate! just replace the charcoal canister with a 182 one! much cheaper option.

well fred, this is the problem.. everyone ive spoken to have said it needs to be stripped down to be taken a look at... thats between £300 and £400... had various estimates of problems inside.. rangining from followers etc... which were quoted total of about 800-1000 for everytjhing sorted... i can get an engine installed for that...

And, charcoal cannister?? wtf?!?! you guys on pills :)

lol! when on tickover the charcoal canister can be heard but only when engine is warm! sounds like a ticking noise! 172 ones are made of metal, and 182 ones are pastic so alot quieter!

i've only ever seen one 172 with a dead rocker in 6years

as i said, get your arse over to Bicester and Neil will sort it

best spending £50 in fuel for a pro diagnostic rater than £1K for a potentially pointless engine swap

I think ill give Neil a call at least fred cheers - and seriously, im no mug, or just swap engines "willy-nilly" for the sake of a little noise... Believe me, everyone from fodder MOT people to a reno techie guy in Enfield (mate of Chris and generally top bloke) and also a decent tuner have all said there is something seriously wrong and it needs to be looked into... the problem fred is just to diagnose the bloody thing needs it taken apart which costs about 300/400 in labour alone... (just relised i repeated that last sentence from my post above! doh-early!)
