anyone thought this is a wind up?

if not theirs no need spending endless comments sudjesting modifying tips everyone rags their car at 17-18 and you have no idea of control of how to get out of understeer/oversteer push even a little to much in a 172 without knowledge and it will result in a crash. why have so many cups been written off? coz they dont have abs? i dont think its that its because they dont know how to brake properly without locking up i dont have abs in my hybrid and have had to slow down really quick a few times and never gone into a mad skid

my advice is people save your breathe

why do you think this is a wind up, i am quite happy to be a member of this clio sport like club, and honestly i dont enjoy winding people up, i wouldnt be asking people for help if i didnt drive a 172 and i personally have more than enough proof to show you that i do own one, personally i dont have my licence yet but i was quite looking forward to being able to drive up to one of your meetings in the UK i dont know,if you think its a wind up, its up to you, just who ever helped me with what ever thanks for your help i guess

i will be careful, do not worry, i dont want to smash my car and have problems with insurance for the rest of my life, but lets just see what happens i guess......

Sorry but how much was insurance for you? I'm estimating around £4,000 for the year or 10 months?

Because Subway got his cup and I think he was paying £3k+ when he was 18.

Unless your a named driver which would then make the policy void.

aint that hard to believe really... some people would rather have a 'nice' car than have money to spend... and the rs clio is hardly the most expensive car, can pick a really tidy one up for less than 6k. and then insurence, well about around the 3k - 5k mark. could have that in a year on s**t wage can't you.

you just don't get the chance to get pissed up and such things hehe :D ah well! each to their own.

I am paying £1300 a year the insurance is under a fleet i beleive and its fully comp? I just know it is £1300 a year, and its a valid insurance because i have been stopped by the police before because they couldnt beleive i was learning in a 2.0 Litre sorry if my answer didnt help u much :S

if only i got a quote like that, lol :S

Why do this on a fleet policy though? You don't get any NCD, and its technically illegal as it wouldn't be a company car. Sounds very iffy.

i dont know what a fleet policy is

wasnt havin a dig at you mate, as i think your a good lad :D but was just sayin... is far from unbelievable to have a rs clio young :D just depends on waht your willing to spend on a car... obviously.. lol

fleet policy is when you own a fleet of cars lol, business based or if you go through a hell of alot of cars!

let me get this right, you have a 172, and your 17, but have no license yet?

I think this will end in tears.

I personally could hardly afford to buy a CD every week let alone a 6.5k car. You sure you're not a drug smuggler too?

172 @ 17? lol

I'll send some flowers to the funeral

Yep...I think I'll get ready for a insurance premium increase next year.

Think the 'bubble has burst' with the 172/182:(

Clart, it's called the joys of having rich irresponsible parents. Mine could have bought me cars when I was younger, but didn't, I used to think they were tight b******s but as you get older you realise it's for the best. Good luck to the kid, but imo it will be written off within a week, I remember what I was like when I was 17, thought I was a driving god... until I lost control in the wet and realised I didn't have a clue how to actually drive when the car does things you dont want or expect.

It's okay, he's in Gib. Who knows, his rents may not like the idea of a £5k UK insurance premium... this reminds me of when my cousin in the states got his first car, Corvette ZR1... that lasted a few days before it was rolled over at 120+mph... hard lessons... well, he did it again with his Accura Integra too and his 350z lol

That's okay..he won't be crasing into any of us then.

I think we have a similar situation here in the UK though with a lot of young drivers fiddling the insurance system with the named driver thing or just getting loans etc to pay silly premiums.

I don't give a toss who drives what but it is this which is pushing premiums up

I dont think insurance policie's in gibraltar clash with insurance in england. There is a 19 year old here who is Driving a a Golf a R32 and theres a girl whos about 20 whos driving an S3. The clio is a fast car but i dont think its much compared to what other people are driving around Gibraltar. and to Clart, i am sure i am not a drug smuggler because my dad owns about two supermarkets in Gibraltar and a take away you can ask any one from Gibraltar if they have been to Ramsons and then aswell we didnt need to take out a loan or anything to pay insurance or to pay for the car, we paid everything cash.....I will not smash the Clio when i get my licence because I have been learning in it, and i know what it's like when you sorta try go fast. Roads in Gibraltar aswell are not like the UK and weather conditions in Gibraltar are not like in the UK, it does not rain much here compared to what it rains in the UK so it should be alright.....i just dont see why you people cant beleive a 17 year old has a clio sport, its nothing WOW compared to other sports cars, im sure if you go down to Wembley...Southall you see all the indians in there BMW's and they must be 19, 20...whats the difference? i am just driving a Clio not an M3 or 350Z!

^^ To be honest mate the way you started this thread sounds like you think it is a big deal - almost bragging about the fact you have a 172 at 17.

no it's not a particularly fast car, but it is for a 17 year old. driving it on your driving lessons is a big difference to putting your boot down and it coming on cam and taking it to the red line, they are not fast before this.
Personally I reckon you will bin it within the first week or month as you've not had the experience of buying and trying to run it yourself, but daddy will probably buy you a newer and faster car to replace it with anyway lol.
It's not a case of not believing you, you do get kids in fast cars, you also get kids in fast cars crashing a lot, but it depends on maturity levels as to how you will act in a car that you dont have to pay for. From your posts I'd say your fucked :clown:

But this emphasises that you've just been bought a car by your parents, which irritates a lot of people who've saved up and owned a lot of crap cars in order to eventually own a nice car.

IMO a young driver should be limited to what kind of engine/power they are allowed to drive, until experience is built up. I remember saying that I wouldn't drive fast or stupidly when I was learning, but this all changes when you get some confidence... and I remember thinking this to myself as I was crawling out of my rolled 106.

It takes time to develop the maturity to drive relatively fast cars.

  a burnt one
, i am sure i am not a drug smuggler because my dad owns about two supermarkets in Gibraltar and a take away

So, you are SURE that you are not a drug smuggler but apparently, youre not quite sure how many supermarkets daddy owns??

About 2 of them, that could be 1 or 3 but then some would say 4 is almost 2.

And does the fact daddy owns anything necessarily make it impossible to be a smuggler?

My uncle once fell of a wild horse when drunk and broke 5 ribs, my showjumping cousin said "well dad if you had my hard hat on you would'nt have broken you're ribs"

And if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle.

All the guff ive posted there makes as much sense to me as yours.

So there, oh and the fact people think you are making a big deal of having a 172 at 17 lies in the title, why all the exclamation marks?????????

If as you say you started the thread for ICE advice, why didnt you post it in the technology section under a thread named 'ICE help needed'?
