Exhaust help.

  1995 Clio RSi 1.8
Hi all,

Basically I had some problems with my exhaust being really loud (bad loud not good loud). I thought there was a hole in it somewhere, so I took it to the garage to get it looked at sure enough there was a whole, so I had it fixed.

Im not impressed with the job the garage did and here are some pictures, what do you think? Incase you cant tell the silver pipe to the right of the cat is the new piece the fitted, I dont think its the correct part really. Looks to me like the whole lot is hanging off lol, it hits speed bumps even when I go really slow!

Anyways I have taken it back to them once already and those images are how it came back to me (it was even lower before, but no pics) Am i just being picky or is it a dodgy job?

After I took it back to them and complained they then decided tell me that the center piece and backbox are weak and that the exhaust manifold is cracked! WTF, why did they tell me that when i took it in first!

So im thinking of getting this to replace the system and fit it myself. What will the differences be over the standard system, in terms of performance gains, and also sound.

Thanks in advance for any help....

Hi mate,

Basically the Mk1's do suffer from a slight sagging around that area, more noticed when you lower the car as it can catch on bumps, etc. If you do go for a whole new system best go to a decent garage and when they fit it ask them to add a new mount/braket to support the exhaust better. I had mine done, like many others, and the exhaust is now nice and straight and sits neatly in the recess.

But anywho, the K-Tec looks good but they are a little on the loud side so may I suggest the silent de-cat. It's a little more, but if you don't like loud systems it helps to give the same performance as the straight piece of pipe but keeps the noise down (less raspy and a deeper tone).

Performance Gains, I'd say around the 3-6bhp mark, as the CAT is the most power restricitve part on a car. So top-end should be a bit more responsive. :)
