Lowered Tracking Problems

  BMW M135i
http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=190259

Leading on from that thread i've taken it to another place who have told me that because its lowered i've altered camber, caster etc so they can't touch it as the values they have are no longer the correct ones due it being lowered altering them. The only way would be a full geometry setup by a proper place.
Now whilst it makes sense to me I want to make sure i'm not being fed a load of b****cks ?

Its pretty damn close now and whilst the car does drive striaght the steering wheel is offset to do so, that and its probably a tyre eater because of it.

Has anyone else experienced problems after lowering their car in this department ?

Springs alone won't make a huge difference.

You can check it yourself with a few bit bit of string a level floor, a spirit level and a set of vernier calipers.

daft question, but is the suspension fitted correctly??

As far as I know yes, though its going to be my next point of investigation because something must be wrong somewhere surely? Haven't had any other problems for the last month or so since is was fitted, not really sure what I could have done wrong though any pointers ?

Wouldn't know where to start and how level would the floor have to be? totally dead spirit level flat or just not on a slope?
And its a full spring/damper set if that would make a difference.

Fred is right - lowering is not a big issue re camber and castor - tracking should be as standard (toe out) or a bit less to compensate for a slight increase in camber from lowering.

If your steering wheel is not 'straight' it sounds as though the tracking has been set incorrectly with one track rod shorter/longer than the other - a recipe for instability. Get whoever did it to do it properly or find someone who is competent to do it correctly. It won't affect tyre wear significantly, but should be sorted to get the best out of the car.

Would have to be quite level i've got a concrete floor int h garage so its quite accurate.

No difference with springs and dampers but unless you know what your doing just take it to a garage to check.
