suspension advice for mk1s

  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
Basically.

im looking for 55mm shocks and springs for a 1996 1.4 RT.

1. Where's the best place online i can buy some?
2. Any in particular i should go for or avoid?
3. Would a garage fit them for me? and if so how much roughly...

thanks for your help in advance

(i posted this in the wrong section yesterday)

If you're getting uprated suspension, it can be good to get springs that have been matched to shocks - i.e. buying the same make of each.

Eibach do good springs though and seem to work well with most shocks.

Any garage can fit them as it's basically a like for like replacement - expect a few hours labour though (3 perhaps?)

You can get mail order from BBPT, K-Tec, Demon Tweeks, most of the ones in the back of Max Pooer... lol

I believe BB do 55mm shocks for valvers but I'm not sure if they'd fit other models - hopefully someone else can answer that! :)

I've had GMAX 55mm springs on 3 clio's now. never had any problems and thats with standard shocks :) ride is terrible i must admit but i am on 17's, if i wasn't skint it'd be on coilovers

i think im gonig to order some tonight. just a matter of deciding which really. PIs are 20 pounds more expensive than the Gmax...

Both are 'cheap' springs as most of the big-name matched spring/shock set ups don't go that low, but I don't recall anyone really having any trouble with either of those - just be aware that the ride may well be a bit choppy until you get shocks! lol

Bilstein.
Avo
Leda
H and R

Thats all I'd ever use.

You have to remember Reault spend a fortune getting the stock setup and dampers sorted way more than most companies. Stock dampers would costs a fortune if they weren't a normal part realy.

all of those are nearly twice as expensive. im not looking to go rally driving with the clio. just lower it without messing up the original shocks.

in my opinion i would spend alot or not bother, renault know more about suspention design than any cheap manufacture

I concur with edde....you get what you pay for and g-max will send you into a hedge!
