socket under the ash tray?

just found a socket under the ash tray . first time in almost three year ive taken it out to clean all the dust out of it

whats the socket for then?

think its where people like the aa plug a computer into your car to help diagnose a fault
 
Its known as the CAn network connection its where all computers which connect to the car Renault etc connnect.

Diagnostic port, it connects to the ecu... cant understand why renault charge £50 just to plug something into it tho ;)

The connection type is a J1962, industry standard connection - Just some more info in case you were wondering :p

Because it costs them 2-5k for the machine and they wanna make some money out of you :p

Not instant as in it takes a few seconds to update?? or it only throughs out the signal every now and then??

It updates a few times a second I think if forget the exact rate I've got a download at work I can find out next week. Its not perfect though if you want it for speedo etc.

I thought you plugged the Flux Capacitor in there.

Yes you do. I've always wanted a Flux Capacitor in my car. My only problem is where i will get the 1.21 gigawatts required to activate the Flux Capacitor and break the Time barrier????

Tho if i reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, then maybe that might cause a rip in the space time continuum and i will succeed in my dream.

CAN network not that advanced on clio's of that age EOBD (European On Board Diagnostics) basically diag socket
