Hi,

Can anyone suggest a cheap wireless router which is compatible with vista and offers good coverage/range?

I'm helping out my mum lol!

Her line supports up to 6.5meg and her provider will be newnet (unless I find a cheaper option lol).

Cheers
Alex

Netgear DG834G for ADSL I guess (in terms of cheap, all in one box etc..)
Cisco 877w if you want one of the best (but not cheap)

I'm not at all technical but bought a Buffalo Airshot last week to hook up to my PC and PS3 (DSL/Cable). It took me 2 mins to set up and it autodetected everything else. Hammered Resistance FOM online all weekend and it didn't drop out once. Only £30 too.

sign up to BT for a new internet service... get a nice shiny home hub & phone FOC, then cancel the contract within 14days lol

I don't personally like netgear equipment. Thomson are very well priced and very reliable, and next up are Lynksys

I don't like Netgear stuff particularly, but in that price range, the DG834(G) is about the best you'll get.. and I've used every other manufacturers stuff.

Will the drivers work with Vista and also a lot of them on ebay seem to have been bought from AOL. Will they be compatible with other providers (i.e newnet)?

I agree, do NOT get a netgear, i have one sitting in a box under my bed, which in fairness still yealds simlar results to when it was plugged in... linksys are a decent compramise with expense and performance.

you might have to get the vista drivers off the net, i would never touch anything AOL with a large extended barge poll :)

You won't need drivers for a wireless router.. only for your network card or wireless card.

they dont tend to work very well without a wireless card in the PC to recieve the signal in fairness ;) in which case you need something that will have vista drivers available so its a valid question imo
