Immobilizer problems

Over the last month my clios been giving me problems with its

Immobilizer. When i turn the key the immobilizer light will either stay on or flash at me and not start. It doesnt alway happen, sometimes it will do it once and then i try again and it work. Sometimes ive done it 3times and the 4th time is luck and once i was stuck in tescos cark park 4 15mins haha.
Is there an easy fix to this apart from taking it to Renault?
I was thinkin about getting an aftermarket alarm put in (as my car only has the immobilizer no alarm), do you think this will get rid of the problems? or what are my options?

Aftermarket alarm won't fix it.

You need to work out what the issue is firstly give the key a few second when you turn it for the lights to go off before starting it then keep both sets of keys with you and try both if both don't work then most likly its the transponder pickup ring which is the issue easy to change though.

Yea I do give the key a few seconds b4 i turn it completely to wait and see if all the lights go off. No Joy and its defenly with both keys, bn carring them about with me for about a week now. So could be a problem with the "transponder pickup ring". Is this a dealer job or could i do it my self?

DIY job dead easy to do its often them.

Sweet, would the haynes manauls tell you how to do that? and would you just get the part from renault?

Yep parts form Renault.

Haynes tells you hot to chnage it dead easy though just remove the cover round the top of the stearing colume and pull the old one off.
