Auto windscreen wipers...

H

HeatherRS

Im not sure if this is the correct section to post this, buttt it is electrical :)
Anyway, as i was out today in the rain i realised that my supposedly 'automatic' windscreen wipers dont seem to be all that 'automatic'.
I have found that i sometimes need to flick the wiper stick to get them to wipe over the windscreen once, but afterwards they turn off. I can move the stick down one and they stay on like they should on a car without auto wipers.
On my last clio they were fine and worked perfectly but these are a pain in the arse.
Does anybody know if its possible to turn on/off the automatic wipers as you can with the lights? Perhaps this is what the previous owner has done.

I'd be very greatful for some help. Thanks :rasp:

mine is exactly the same!? not automatic at all!?

I dont have a button on my left stalk. Does that mean my lights arent auto?

For the wipers, you need to twist to get the right 'automatic' speed for the density of the rain. Select it and then push the stalk all the way up and then one click down.

For the lights, put the ignition on. Flick the sidelights on/off/on/off and you should hear a beep. This lets you know that the automatic lights have been activated. To turn them off just do the same thing again.

I would say no, but either try the above or if you are that bothered about them, call a dealer give them your reg and ask if they can check on ICM. It'll be able to tell them in under 2 mins.

Just wait till it's dark, turn you car on if the lights come on you have auto lights, simple.

Same thing happened to mine but my car was still in warranty so they replaced the sensor - been fine since. The renault bloke said that the sensor "senses" every 5 secs or so and in very light rain it can get confused. Sometimes when I drive under trees my wipers move so fast they practically fly off. In fact the passenger wiper once unclipped itself!

Now I leave it on the most unsensitive setting and seems to work fine.

sorry for hijacking but i have a 51 plate privilege, will this have auto lights?

The sensor for the auto headlights is at the top of the windscreen in the middle right next to the rear view mirror stalk. If you've got a sensor then you should have auto headlights.
