DCI Cutting power and hesitating.

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
My car's got a fairly tempremental problem.

A week ago on my way to work, the glow plug light came on and cut power to the engine, so take foot off the pedal ready to slow and stop, the light goes out when I take my foot off the pedal, and power is back. It will then continue.

To test I tried this a few times, and it seemed to happen in 4th and 5th only between 3.5k and 4k rpm.

Then a week of problem free travel. Today it did it again, 4th and 5th, not everytime. But more than enough to flag a problem. Then coming off a roundabout in 3rd, accelerate and wasn't watching the tach, but I'd guess about 3.5k again it cut power and the engine management light started flashing. Was on my way home anyway so stopped by a friend's garage who plugged in to read the faults.

He got back

- Map Sensor
- Pedal Potentiometer Track 1
- Fuel Pressure (regulator)

The other code on there was,

- Brake L/Switch.

But I can only assume that has nothing to do with the problem.

Everything else is fine, anyone had this before ?

Being as your cars just been mapped first thing would be to have a word there.

Sounds like a connector to the ECU failue or loom failure though ie a pain.

Brake light switch may cause this, had a very similar problem on a picasso td kept cutting out when pulling away etc, something to do with fuel shut off when braking on diesels, see what your brake lights are doing, get someone to follow you, not too closely...

Yeah edde, the guy is telling me it's not the map (but of course he would say that). It's a dilema, on one hand, it's actually got enough power to move it now and I don't want to go back to the dog it was before.

But if that's the problem, I guess I'll just have to either live with it or chop the car in for something else.

You don't think the map sensor would be at fault for the described problem ? Spoke to a guy at Renault, he thinks it's the glow plugs because that's which light is coming on:rolleyes:

number1, Clio's don't have anything to stop you braking and accelerating at the same time. Torque braking is your friend in a turbo diesel for overtaking.

Do a search trough the forum pmurry had this issue on a car from memory now the remap was requesting more boost or somthing and caused a propblem a bit like this.

Otherwsie its loom trouble but the mapping due to its coincidence timing is IMO the issue. You don't need more boost annway.

Everyone needs more boost  Thanks for the pointer though mate, think I'll just get this one taken off at the weekend.

I think I preferred it when, although a little slower, it could take none stop abuse all day long to now me having to molly coddle it past 100.

Fuel is more important in a diesel in a petrol boost means power in a diesel boost just mean air fuel means power.

Sounds like the mapper need to adjust the map where did you go?

If air didn't come into it why not have a hose instead of an injector. More boost, more air, more fuel, more power :)

Angel Tuning did it.

The boost gives you air power depend how much fuel you put into the air put to much in and you get black smoke ie unburned fuel so you up the boost.

Stock boost levels will with the right injectors set run way more power than your running.

To be fair, it does smoke between 3 and 4 a bit now. I like it, but you've seen my car, the exhaust is pointing straight back isntead of down, so in the wet dirty environments on my way to work, the rear around the exhaust just goes black.

I think I've decided now though mate, going to take it to get the map taken off on saturday, and then sell it. Get something new me thinks.

  is dirty.
Im getting practically the same problem in my petrol Clio. The same fault light is on and I have had the same fault code...I dont know what to do either..:dapprove:

Interesting, PM me the result fella, I personally can't be bothered and I'm going to get something else, GTI or a Cup now winter's here :)

Thats will be an ECU due to its stupid location or the wiring loom/the connector block on the top of the ECU causing the issue. common problem on the 1.2's
