172 with zero miles

  vers le haut doigt milieu
My car comes back tomorrow after the most agenizing 6 week wait to have an engine replaced.

I blew a spark plug out of the engine on the way back from the Nurbergring ring, I managed to make the ECU short and fire all four cylinders at the same time.....

The good bit

The garage I took it too quoted me £1600 for the engine swap fully fitted programmed etc which doesn’t sound too bad.

The bad bits

because I blew my ECU up I have to pay for a new one,
because I fired all 4 cylinders I managed to damage the engine so badly they couldn't refurb it I have to pay 250 quid
I was quoted 8-10 days for the work to take place. as of tomorrow it will be 6 weeks since they took possession
BUT the piss take del resistance was when they called me up 2 days ago and said there is a problem with my Clifford alarm fob. (I don’t have the manual over-ride or spare fob) The exact worlds they used was "its gone faulty". I could never get away at work with saying those words when describing failure of a service, it was fine when I gave the fob to them so that’s an extra 200 quid for a Clifford engineer.

The final price for all is, £2232....... :clown:

Anyway I don't care, nothing can spoil the thought of getting my sport back tomorrow...

lol your way to brain washed by your clio. I would never spend that on any car to be fixed. Would just sell the car myself

  vers le haut doigt milieu
na, I have a non protected no claims ... just one of those bullet biting things

  Lots of Alfas
So they replaced the old engine, ask to keep the old one as you can dismantle it and sell some parts.

  vers le haut doigt milieu
Yeah it comes with a 2 year waranty and free 6 month service. Good idea about selling the parts dave.

i know how u feel tho. in the summer i had to spend £1200 fixing my car for various things.then 2 weeks later i then had to spend a further £1200 fixing other various things cus i hit a kirb at alot of mph! absolutely sucks, but at least u got a nice new engine out of it :D

  Welcome to the L4yer
Glad to know others cherish their clios beyond common sense. I have spent about £1k this year getting the transmission sorted just because its a bit crunchy

how do you blow a spark plug?
Glad youve got it back

a few have done it, they can just normally helicoil the head and re fit the plug, im not why it would damage the ecu...

sounds to me like they couldnt be arsed fixing the head
fitted a new engine
couldnt unlock the old ecu and said it was broke
bought a new unlocked ecu
fingered you with the bill

This does'nt sound good, did you manage to not pay the bill by any chance prior to collecting it...or at least pay by cheque...

  vers le haut doigt milieu
I paid it all off on credit card.
They charged me £300 for a new head which isn't new.
By the looks of things the used sealent instead of a head gasket.
They didnt replace my coil pack.
They used a seccond hand ht lead which is faulty.
They striped a bolt on my inlet manifold so now I cant get it off, to cover up the fact they do this they didn't screw up 2 bolts on on the inlet manifold so it looks symetrical.
The ECU light is on constantly.
The engine struggles under load like its not got any back pressure.
Miss fires, cuts out, exhaust pop's
The MPG readout starts at about 29, then counts down 28.9, 28.8, 28.7 etc...

OH AND its not at zero miles like they promised.....

I know this company have screwed me over, at this point im soooo pis**ed off I will go crazy at anyone who tells me this.

I will upload photo's once I've calmed down and let u know how I get on with small calims etc.

any advice would be wonderfull tho.

  Lotus Elise 111R
Really sorry to hear that. Did you take it up with them at the time before picking it up? What did they say about the ECU light?

  vers le haut doigt milieu
it was fine when it left there garage, it only stated happening 80 miles away when the ECU light came on so I had to pull over on the side of the M25

  Lotus Elise 111R
Sounds like it may not have been set up properly, even taking into account the physical shortfalls. You gonna go back?

thats fcuking horrible mate

i suggest taking it to a renalt specialist and getting a full report of what theyve bodged etc

ive no doubt one of the specialists off the forum will be able to help you out

then with your report you can take there pack of lies/invoices to trading standards and hopefully claim for this or take them to court

i would also make an appointment at citezens advice bureu first thing on monday morn

I don't know if I'm gonna go back, I know I wont have my car for 2 weeks but I have paid for this now soooo??? 2 minds?
I was told renault won't do a full diagnostic's as I dont have the standard air filter or cat. is that true?

exactly take it to someone reputable and get it put down in writing.
where abouts are you? i hate to say this but im sure this place you are talking about have been on watchdog before (could be talking out of my arse there the name just rings a bell)
to be completely honest and i do hope im wrong but i dont think you have alot of hope of getting anywhere going down the small claims route etc, all you can do is go back to the garage calmly and just say to them ive had it checked out show them the list of faults and say i want it back in an accecptable condition or threaten them with action.

like i say where abouts are you? you've got a few good choices close to basildon i can reccomend.

This is the company
www.gearboxengines.co.uk

Im based on the other side of town near heathrow. I think I'm stuck going back to them.

But thank u everyone for ur help, I've calmed down a little now.

I had a similar but not so expensive problem many years ago after purchasing a mini with a new MOT from the day before. This was before RAC checks etc, just a £1000 car! It was only when a rear puncture happened the following week after the MOT and purchase, that I noticed some fairly severe rust on the rear subframe.

Had it checked independantly, it was found t be so bad, if I had braked hard, the rear subframe could have seperated from the car. Anyway went back to the garage, they told me to f*ck off.

Took them to small claims court, cost me £27 then, they found in my favour, the garage had to pay for £1500 for someone else to repair it, then they went bankrupt, luckily after my car had been repaired.

I hope you get a similar outcome, but don't be afraid to query, just keep calm first off....and try and get them to come to you, given the severity of the situation, and the potentially dangerous situ your car is in....

Tell me about it, I went through everyone I could find online and went with the cheapest....

Small claims court or trading standard tbh, as said though get a second opinion from a reputable renault speacialist.

They sound like t*ssers tbh.

Completly Screwed over (Re: 172 with zero miles)

Does anyone on here work for renault (i.e London west or slough) and know the average price of a full electrical diagnostics and will they take my car after I've had the air filter changed and exhaust decated?
