iPod alpine headunit but dont want to use an ipod, possible?

As above I have an Alpine 9857r i think headunit which has an ipod block thing adapter. can I use another device like a Zen with the aid of a cable convert with my headunit?

Yeah you just need a 3.5mm to ai-net

No impossible to control cos your only usin the audio output from the portable device. like the other lad said you need the 3.5 jack to ai net but you wont get control
