Difference in headlight options on 197 and R27

Car  Clio F1 R27
I've just bought an R27 and noticed it doesn't have the full fat xenons with the blue light and washer jets. It does have the circular light cluster with the glass dome in front like you see in the full xenon, whereas some 197's just have a standard light fitment with a bulb.

I'd like to change my lights to full fat xenons and am hoping that this type of light will just take a different bulb and give the same effect you get as it has that glass dome fitment.

Does anyone know if it's just that bulb that's different between the sport and xenon lights?

I think there's three types of lights you can get...The standard lights, the sports and the xenon. I think all R27's had the sports and hopefully will look the same from a distance if I just change the bulb to a blue xenon.

If anyone can confirm this or offer any advise I'd much appreciate it.

Ohh and here's some pic's. Picking the car up on Tuesday!!! hehe

So is it just the bulb then that's different in the sport and xenon light? You can get gas xenon bulbs from most places like halfords etc...

On the 197 you can get the standard silver 1.2 stylee headlights.(no cost option) Then the next ones are the dedicated cornering lights. These have black surrounds wich make the car look alot meaner from the front imo. Then you can spec the xenon clusters. Double distance with cornering lamps. These look similar to the cornering lamps, but obviously come with headlamp washers. You would need to change the whole cluster, as xenons need balast packs to start them up .... its not just a lamp change....... . Then the loom might need upgrading for the xenon clusters? The MK2's didnt....... who knows lol. R27's have the silver clusters as standard (Alans has) Its up to the customer to spec to spec which lamps were fitted.

Is the headlamp you've got (cornering lamps) projectors if so then you can fit an aftermarket hid kit which would involve little work although it's not technically legal.

Yeh as you've got projector lenses on the dip beam you could fit an aftermarket hid kit (circa 100 notes) assuming theres room in the Mk3 as i've never had a good look at one. Not "legal" as such but should be fine, its not just a bulb swap.

as it can dazzle other road users an may lead to damaged sight in extreme cases legal kits have washers an adjust their level as you drive to prevent dazzle cause they are very powerful

Yeah just put a 4300 or 6000k HID kit in, it's only a change of blub and the ballast units come with them. Can't see you having any problems with it at all as the projector unit will keep the beam patten in shape.

Which of those two ratings matches what's currently used in the 197 Xenon? Will it light up in the same way with a nice blue tint? Thanks.

4300k is the oem renault bulb i've heard but most people on here (like me) run the 6000k kit looks nice with a slight blue tint to it, not too chavvy can get a kit from ebay for around 45 notes.

Ok thanks, is this just a bulb that fits into my existing sports projector on my r27 or is it another device aswell.

I'm just wandering as I already have a projector light, will it then look then same as a proper xenon? If it's just the bulb that makes it blue and white and I have a projector light I guess this will give me the same result...

No you must also have a ballast unit which connects to the bulb it's a box, I have cable tied it to something in the engine bay although because I have a mk2ph1 i'm unsure about the bay in the 197 although yes if you install a hid kit on a car with projectors it looks excatly the same as a car with hid's from the factory.

Ok great thanks alot. Do the 4300 bulbs have a blue tint? On my 172 ph2 they were like silver but blue at a distance. Just dont wanna go overboard if i cant adjust them as i know you can do this on the factory ones

The bulbs are n0t tinted, it is the lense pr0jecter that splits the beam 0f light that causes the blue flicker.

Buy a HID kit with: xen0n bulbs, wiring l00m, balast, and relay. easy t0 fit,

I use 6000k which are sp0t 0n.
