HDMI -> DVI

Car  Not a Clio
Received my Palit 8800GT today. It's got 1x DVI and 1x HDMI. I need a HDMI -> DVI adapter so I can run 2 TFT's off it. Overclockers tell me you can get an adapter for a few quid but they didn't have any in and I'm having trouble finding one.

Can anyone give me a link?

I went maplins yesterday and im sure they had a straight HDMI > DVI, in a connector meant for gfx cards, not a lead like i linked. So they should have what you want.

So has the GPU actually got a HDMI port on the back of it??

Yes mate. The guy I spoke to at ocUK said they must have sent me out a newer model as the description on the site says 2x DVI. Seems a lot easier to buy an adapter than send the card back for one that does have 2 DVI ports.

I'll have another look on their site then, cheers.

Edit: Ouch they want £20! OcUK said they wouldn't be more than a few quid :S

Yes! but the DVI looks wrong? Aren't they supposed to have 2 holes above and below that slit on the end?

Found a few on ebay but non of them show holes in the picture :S are there 2 types or is it just dodgy photos?

Well there should be holes as there will be pins on the male end to go in surely....

I know nothing about DVI so don't know if there are 2 types. If you're sure there is only the one type(?) then that's good enough for me.

Seems there could be different types: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI My screens are actually VGA so I'd use a VGA to DVI with the DVI to HDMI. The type I'd need seems to be DVI-A

Unless you can get a HDMI to VGA?

HDMI to DVI-A don't seem to exist and neither do HDMI to VGA :S

i had this scenario with my new monitor took me ages to figure out after reading on websites and stuff.

basically there isnt a hdmi to vga because vga is an analogue signal and hdmi is digital i think that the reason anyway?

ur computer or graphics card dvi slot will not need all the holes filling in (the cross bit at the end) for it to work.

If i remember rightly the dvi A is rare

i hope ive made some sense :S

Right so DVI-I will be fine and doesn't need all the holes filling. We're getting closer then lol Why are they all in Hong Kong! I have no problem buying from there except when I have before it's taken about 2 weeks for my item to arrive.

Here's the offending card and I've just noticed that the female DVI is a DVI-I. Wish I'd of noticed sooner, might have saved some time. doh.

Thanks for all the help. If I wasn't such a dick it wouldn't have taken so long. Bought one with gold connectors from HK.

Make sure you get a £1000 adapter, which is gold plated etc.
You'll get a really poor signal otherwise.

</hahahahahahahahaahaha>
