Website help

  Clio 1.2 16v
Hi All,

Finally got my website up and running (kind of i have got to wait 48 hours for it to register).

I'm going to need some advice on getting it on google.

Any tips etc? I have put meta tags in at the top, but apparantly they don't do much.

Thanks

Stu

I'm not sure if it still applies, but back in the day when search engines like altavista were popular, you used to have to hide loads of key words in your index.html page. It was this page that the search engines searched key words for, so when they found a relevant word, they'd put it in their findings.

I think to make sure you're top of the list you have to pay...?

Good keyword-rich content is the best bet. Good use of h1/h2 tags, good page title, good meta description and keywords. Being linked to from other sites is also extrememly helpful.

Try not to go overboard with keywords as Ads suggest, google will rape you.

On another note a guy I used to work with used to do what you're doing a good few years back. Got a lot of free stuff! I think he packed it in though, not entirely sure why though.

ahh thanks, i guess you upload it to google using that website and it puts it in their list to 'crawl' so should be there in a few days

Well I did say that I wasn't sure if it still applied...

:quiet:sorry dude, didnt mean to come out as i was having a dig. back in the day it was a popular trend, but the major engines like Google tend to blacklist sites which keyword stuff etc...

172.com suggested some more up to date methods of SEO.

No worries, the last time I did any web design, it was back when you could away with just using html all the way! Wouldn't know where to start with flash, etc...

172.com offers good advice.

dont hide keywords, google will spot the fact the BG colour and the font colour are the same and eat you alive.

dont bother adding to google either, just let them pick you up naturaly.

good clean code with plenty of unique content.

I've got a site thats no3 in google for the main keyword search and iv minimal incoming links, just good clean code, good use of H tags and keywords and some unique content that iv written myself.

free advertising! saves me a fortune on adwords (altho i do still spend a fookin fortune on it tho lol)
