As my 172 doesn't have that

I guess its just a pipe tapped into one of the air vent ducts routed to the glovebox is it ?

Mine has this, I just twist to open the vent.

In the winter it's shut or otherwise it will just blow hot air in.

Broken by the sound of it.

You can't just replace the cap - its the whole unit. Only a few quid if I recall.

Always wondered what it was but never bothered to look into it. I don't put food in glove box but might be an idea come summer (if we have one this year!)
