Whats involved with running a forum - Techy

Where does the forum sit...? With the Host? vBulletin? And how much does it cost for a basic one? I'd imagine this one costs more due to size?

You can buy a vBull licence for £130 or thereabouts.

Hosting isn't much for a small one, just has to support the basics.

smf is a good forum platform and it is free All you need is your own webspace.

You could do it all for free but don't expect much when it comes to reliability.

You need:

Host (webspace)
Domain name
Forum software & licence if applicable

Software: SMF and phpbb are the popular free ones. vBulletin and Invision Powerboard are the popular paid for ones.

Free ones arnt worth it too be honest. If you go for PHPBB you will need to modify so you dont get SPAM bots. But they still seem to get around it. I would personally buy the license.

depends on what you're doing. I run a small closed forum (archery club members) with Snitz, but if it was for an open public forum I'd pay for Vbulletin.

Agreed. When I ran a forum vbulletin is soo ace. Some really cool modifications can be done too
