Key Fob / Immobiliser - shall I replace the....

Car  Clio 182 Trophy. No. 189
.........Key fob or the ignition ring for my Clio 172 Mk2 (2002 - 02)

Situation = I ony have 1 keyfob and the button for the central locking broke off and was resoldered. Before this was soldered and over the last few months I am having problems starting the car. The immobiliser light often remains on after the key is inserted.

Is my best option to obtain a new key first or replace the ignition ring? The key does sometimes work but it is very tempramental. At work I leave the key in the ignition as it seems to work fine if it is not in my pocket all day. When I take the key apart / remove battery this sometimes works. There does not appear to be any internal damage but maybe solder / glue has damaged the circuit board?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

The chip in the key is damaged. Mine is similar. I have to apply slight pressure to the button when turning the key to deactivate the immobiliser.

I just cant face forking out around £150 for a new key.

Nightmare, i'll have to get a key first and hope for the best.

Ridiculous price, shame you cant get them done anywhere else!

ask a local blacksmiths....mine will cut the key with an original renault fob and programme it me to the car for 85 quid...still steep though

try getting out locking the door then opening again then try again doesnt that work?

I think this might be the clue - when the button broke inside the fob I was locking the doors manually, wondering if something is out of sync?
