Engine mounts

  E36 M3. 182
Im fed up with my engine moving about, bashing my exhaust off the bottom of my car, Ive already changed he dogbone, Are the engine (top left) and gearbox (top right) both as simple?? i.e. do you need to support the weight of the engine as you change the, even if you change one at a time????

You will have to support the weight of the engine. Inspect the passenger side gearbox mount first.

Trolley jack underneath the engine will suffice, the passenger side one on mine was a bit hard to get off as it had bonded together a bit. Turned out they were both split in half:eek: but all fine now.

been doing all of mine this afternoon; the top mount is a doddle but the two N/S gearbox mounts are a pain (especially the lower rubber block - had to take the mounting bracket off to do it).

Must be something seriously wrong if the metal is cracked, do you mean the black buffer that the engine sits in??

When I had my 106 gti I changed the gearbox mount for a powerflex one, this stopped any movement from the engine and also kept the exhaust still.

If a powerflex mount was fitted to an RS would it have the same effect
