Aux belt horror story!

  Mondeo TDCI 130
This is why people who don't know what they are doing shouldnt touch clio drive belt / cambelts!!

Its a member off here, was brought in today for an auxiliary belt kit, after a bit of confusion, owner thought it had been replaced then realised it hadn't and the old one had just been refit!!

So i started to strip it down and met this.....

Please excuse the crap pic quality!

The tensioner with bits missing!

The bottom torx bit on the tensioner spring, as you can see its not tight, and i havent undone it, thats how it was on the car, can spin it with your fingers now there is no tension on it!!

The top torx bit, extremely mullered, obviously been put in with mole grips last time around, and again was not tight, there were 2 or 3 threads visible!!

Apart from this the allen key that holds the tensioner on was only nipped, was not as tigh as it should be!!

To be fair i cannot believe the bare faced cheek that somebody thinks this work is upto standard!! I would not expect to pay for that kind of quality!

Blimey, how did that not explode?! What i know about belts you could fit on the back of a stamp but even that tells me that they got away lightly!...

meh, if you have mechanical experience the engines are just like any other to work on.

That looks nasty though, obviously the person who did it was an idiot.

I see s**t like this all the time. Loads of my customers say 'oh it was only in the garage yesteray/last week/last month''

Had a starter motor not engaging properly the other day, chap said hed had it replaced a week before and would take it back as it was abviosly faulty. I opened the bonnet and found it hanging on one (very loose) bolt.

Today had a guy who had had the discs and pads replaced yesterday, drove down the motorway and had smoke pouring off the front passenger wheel. I took it all apart and found the pads jammed in the caliper carrier coz the numptey hadnt cleanned the old baked on dust off it, let alone used any copper grease.

 You saying that though, i do remember a chap calling in with a cavalier SRI at my old workplace. complianing of a grinding on the rear, he had also just had the pads replaced only days earlier somewhere.

To my horror, someone had put a pad in the wrong way around, so the friction material pointing towards the piston, and the metal backing pointing towards the disc, OUCH!:dead:
