Clutch Cable.... Have i damaged it?!..

  L'arctic Bleu Clio 182FF
Hey all,

To cut a long story short, a couple of weekends ago the mrs and I had a barnstormer of an argument in the car. Knowing that i was mostly in the wrong, I acted like a complete d1ck and reversed at high speed (flat to floor), with my foot still on the clutch...

When i stopped, there was an almighty stench of burning, which i now understand to be the clutch cable?

The car seems to drive fine now, its a 54reg 182 on 31k miles. We have had no previous problems with the clutch, and other than this incident, we always drive the car with immense TLC.

Do you think i have done any long-term damage? Is there a way i can check if i have? How much would i be looking at to replace the cable, if required? Would it be best to wait until the 36k service and see if there are problems with it then?

Any help/advice/suggestions would be appreciated! :dapprove: :dead:

PS Lesson learnt, I will no longer drive whilst in the middle of an argument!

i wouldnt worry mate,it would possibly been the clutch that was the smell, if it drives the same as before then dont worry, though if its really bothering you pop in your local garage and have it a quick once over

Are they likely to do it for free bud? I guess i could go in there and just ask if its ok, as it feels a bit strange, i.e. say nothing about the "incident" lol...

if you revved up and let the clutch out slowish then it is going to wear the face a little. Totally normal its just how it works, if there are no ill effects now then its no problem.

on other cars yeah mate, i know that low mileage cars tend to smell as the clutch doesnt get much use, and its just burning crap off, you should smell a car with a proper slipping clutch lol, i had to drive a fiesta once and the clutch was so worn i put it in gear and it didnt go anywhere lol

As said it will be the clutch not the cable. If it drives fine there's nothing to worry about.
