R888 or T1-R for track?

my mate uses them on his vts, swears by them, thinks they are ace. gonna get some for my track wheels, ready for the summer.
 
use them on my nova track car they are great on track in the dry well worth the money for the extra grip.
 
Stay away from the wet bits though

why? a friend of mine runs them in the wet on his track porsche no problem.

it's onyl standing water (aquaplaning resistance) that they have problems with. and i'm sure you wont find much on a track.

Say 5 lots of 15 laps?

You can easily get 15laps of the ring out of them!!! Providing you balance front to back! Mate did it and there was still meat on them at the end of the laps!

last time i went to combe i had a good half worn set, by lunch time i had to swap the passenger side front to back, and by the end of the day they were destroyed!

admittedly it was a quiet day, and i did 140 miles trying to chase exiges and the like.
 
Only went for a quick blast at night, but i love them. Cant wait to get them on the track.

well, the set on the 182 have done at least 60 laps of llandow, and similar at snetterton, and they're still alright, get 1 more full day out of the front I think, the rears have plenty to go
 
I was going to say I thought they were £60 on the net.

Didn't want to say anything until that was confirmed. I will probably go for 205/45/15s I think.
 
i could have got them on the net... but they charge big dollar for delivery to the island :(
 
I wasnt sure you could get r888's in 205/45/r15?
I know the lowest profile i could get was 195/50/r15
What wheels are 205/45/r15?
 
They are good, but I think it's debatable whether they actually make the car more fun. Faster, definitely.
 
A guy at Outlon back in november had 2 sets. One normal for dry/damp and he had a set that he had cut extra grooves in for really wet conditions

but more seriously, i definately rate the 888's. for the price i don't think much comes close.

I ran 205/50/15's on my time attack clio all last year without issues.

They do last pretty well, i did 3 time attack rounds on the same set, and gave them as much death as possible. I then sold them onto a mate who is usuing them for road/track as they still had plenty of life.

Get the tyre pressure right and they will last pretty well.

As for more fun/faster... i found they made my car faster, but maybe less fun as it was soooo grippy, the back end never stepped out of line!! lol

Thats what I think. People seem to get caught up with making there car stiffer and grippier for trackdays, forgetting that it often makes the car less adjustable and fun for the average driver. End of the day if you want a massively quick car thats faster than the guy next to you, don't get a clio!
 
Are the R888s worth the extra cash?

R888 is a semi-slick for track usage, the other is a fast road tyre.

The R888 will be sticky to the touch when warmed up, giving amazing grip. You pay for that with the fast wear rate, so it depends how many track days you intend to do.

Being a semi-slick, you'll have problems in the wet

They only have issues with standing water. In the wet they are grippier than most road tyres, as long as you have enough temp in them.
 
I agree with warren on this, The compound plays a more impotant role in the grip you have when the road is wet.

Ever driven on very cheap budget tyres in the wet? even with loads of tread they are dangerous sometimes.

Tread depth only comes into it with standing water.

Ive driven on R888's on a wet road and they had more traction than Prada spec2's

So long as it's warm I agree.

Not driven on R888s but I've tried a few other brands/compounds, and the one thing none of them like is the cold.

So long as it's warm, as said above, I'd take them on a damp track over any 'standard' road-going tyre.
 
Yes 888's are worth the extra money all day long. Put simply, they are TRACK tyres and T1'Rs are ROAD tyres. I ran them all last year and are fantastic on track and on road :) go for it.
