Opinions on handling on Sportlines

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
My 182 came with with cup suspension pack and I always considered it to be a really good set up, just sat a little high for my liking.

I fitted a set of Eibach Sportlines and the subtle drop is just right, but I'm really unimpressed with the new handling and ride! General driving it doesn't feel too harsh, until you get to any kind of bump or hole and it really sounds aweful. Then theres the handling. Feel in the corner is ok with any role in the body gone. But when really pushing on or hard into a bend the car now has more of a tendancy to want to understeer. trying to lift the inside rear wheel hardly ever happens now, unless you're really aggressive with throwing it into a corner. And I'm not going any faster than I used to on the original set up.

I then fitted Compbrake solid topmounts, which have improved the turn in and the response/ feel through the steering, but haven't cured the unimpressive ness of the handling.

I'm really considering getting rid now and looking into a custom spring based on the original just a little lower.

What are peoples thoughts

I thought the same thing mate and took mine off. I thought there was a lot less feel too.

Much better on standard suspension unless you want to fork out for coilovers. Plus its more fun!

I think the saying goes eibachs for show, Aphex for go (or was that the other way round lol). Heard good things about the eibachs and heard that the Apehex's can be a little hard but good when you driving hard. I considered both but having listened to other peoples comments went the coilie route and pleased I did.

Custom springs - they cant be cheap?

Other way round fella! Apex are shocking imo. I've had pro's, sport's and apex. Nothing bad to say about eibach.

i thought this too, surely these cant be better than standard, maybe worse if anythingapart from the small drop they give you, kinda pointless really

Assuming you've had the alignment done after fitting.

Had it done the day I fitted the top mounts, and will be having it chacked again in the near future to allow for any settling and movement after first installation.

I think I prefered the original springs TBH, but I want the slight drop I've got now. Was considering contacting Leda as they are down my way somewhere, and see if they can supply an identical lb spring and rate as the cup setup just a slighlty lower stack height.:S

Scrap that, I've just checked and Leda have now moved to Derby. Anybody know of places that'll make up custom springs?
