Playstation PlayTV

Anyone got, or thinking of getting PlayTV? Looks good, being able to watch it on your psp if near a WiFi spot.

I was thinking of it but for the same price i could get 7 months of all the sky channels in my room with multiroom... decisions decisions

I just downloaded the demo of this again today and had a good play around. It looks fantastic. For £50 you essentially get a fully featured twin tuner PVR with a nice, slick GUI.

Does anyone here now have one? I even like the cool way it changes channels with a nice fade out/in and the GUI bar rolls around almost iPhone style. I'm going to order one of these real soon I think. I roll with Freeview, so TBH I reckon this is a no-brainer.

I've got one and as far as I'm concerned it's _the_ best looking GUI and interactive system for Freeview. You can set it to record in the background even if you're playing games, the system's turned off or you're watching a DVD.

The only thing that might bug you - no series linking (ie, recording a whole series) and that it only supports DVB-T, and OfCom recently announced that Freeview-HD will be in DVB-T2 (or something - point its, the hardware won't support OfCom's format choice).

Good point though - whatever you record, can be exported to the XMB and from there onto USB drive and watched on your PC ;-)

Awesomo 4000.

Thanks for the info. TBH the episodic recording will not bother me. I just want to be able to take a piss without missing tits in Eastenders. Tonight would be ideal what with the last Grand Designs and The Apprentice being on. I can download them and watch them on the PS3 anyway but, I figure for £50 it's a must have for the PS3. As you say, the GUI makes it instantly better than any PVR I've seen.

HDTV doesn't worry me for now. The only shows I'd care about being in HD are US ones, and I download all those and watch them on the PS3 already. Win.

Ordered.

i bought one in the woolworths closing down sale so got one for half price, only bought it cos it was a bargain, still in its box lol, not even tried to see if it works as i have bt vision which i am very happy with.

will use it one day i guess, need to upgrade the size of my hard drive first from the 60gb though.

dk you are a woman. "OMFG I saved £100 today I'm so logical" - on something we didn't want or will ever need.

Wut??

LMFAO, was always thinking of buying one but when never got around to it, so when i saw it for half price i thought, that'll do, i'll store it until i fancy using it and then already have one and don't have to wait for it to be delivered.

now if I bought one without owning a ps3, that would be a real woman thing to do!

Any links reviewing it at all?

How do you manage to log into it via your psp? They reckon you can do that with the PS3 "but" it has to be on remote play and be connected via wireless?? Well it does for me anyway!

just like to add, ive had mine since the start of the year, ITS VERY VERY GOOD! Picture quality is amazing best out there

Old thread revivial lol!

Yeah I bought one for £45 of shopto in their Jan sale. Also bought a 250gig HD to accommodate my recorded stuff.

Its great playing 32 player online killzone AND recording east enders at the same time ;)

Have to say I really like it, however you will 'want' a PS3 remote and probbaly a bigger HD which pushes up the price a bit!

Just set up PSP and PS3 on remote play and you can then either stream tv onto the ps3 or transfer a recorded file (MP4 iirc) onto the psp

I really need to look into getting a bigger HD. Nearly used mine already and thats juston game installs!

Il have aplay with the remote stuff more. I was under the impression you could log on to your PS3 from anywhere and set it to download etc?

Not too bothered about about playing a s**t shooter while I record. Just the recording/pausing is good.

Overrated, overpriced, impossible to control and even harder to beat shooter for sale. £1. Must be 1ft tall.

Basically, remote play will let you control your PS3 as if you're in front of it (you'll get a scaled down visual of the XMB as it normally appears on the TV) - the only things you can't do are play games, DVDs and Blu-Rays on it. Videos, Music and PlayTV all work fine. And yes, you can browse the Playstation Store and set it to download.

When you disconnect, you're given the option to shut down the PS3 or leave it running.

Well I am only a foot tall and a shiny gold coin is outstretched for you ;)

Maybe a dumb question.....does the PS3 need to be on all the time with playtv?

No. It does if you want to pause TV and use the PVR functions. If you just want to watch Jeremy Kyle, AFAIK you can leave the PS3 off.

I'm not sure that's correct as you need to load up Play through the XMB. I will check tonight though.

PlayTV runs like a game/application on the PS3 - so yes, it does have to be on for it to work. It has to be on to use any features for PlayTv or Remote Play. There's a special standby-mode for RemotePlay.
