Matched inlets

  clio 172
This may have been asked before, if it is a repost i apolagise.

If you fit matched inlets does the car need a remap?

Cheers

Doesnt "need" one but combined with other mild breathing mods a live map will give you the best from the changes you have made.

I'll get one done then, im trying to find a place nearish me (Yorkshire) that does remap's. Know of anyone?

I dunno, I've just always been a bit wary of these 'off the shelf' maps. If i was getting a car mapped it'd be a custom RR job... and that's only worth it after cams etc...

Thats why we said live map? Worth it after de-cat,exhaust,filter and matched inlets to get the most out of them, but agreed I wouldnt get a live map unless I had cams as well. The Rs Tuner maps are fine and cheap for mild mods.

Just to add, we have been doing a lot of rolling road time the past few weeks developing various packages/products and certain 'off the shelf' maps have had spot on AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) across the board and really are worth the money spent.

Our 182 has been running all of the above with an off the shelf map and its map was nigh on perfect again in terms of AFR. Chris @ TOTD has confirmed this. Once we have all the data & info sorted out we are going to publish it for everyone's benefit and hopefully get a bit more of an insight into what you are actually doing to the car going at the same time.

PLEASE whatever you do, fit them properly! the amount of mis alinged matched inlets i've seen is ridiculous!

Dumb question, how do you fit them mis alinged? Thought all the bolts would stick it where it needs to be? Or am I being just plain stupid here?

(hijack maybe) some people say its not worth it, but on the other hand some say its the best mod theyve done! ive been looking at inlets and RS tuner, what gains are you expecting? what are realistic gains? assuming an otherwise standard engine, panel filter.

if you go ahead with this, please try and get a before and after run, to show real gain.
mine will be having this done through A P Developments (swansea) if i could be confident of reasonable / noticeable gains.
I will then be posting before and after results (hope yours is a good strong 172)

the holes in the inlets aren't a precise fit, its just a cast piece remember

you MUST remove the fuel rail and look down the injector holes and line them up with the ports, otherwise you're wasting your time by just chucking them on

i was just speaking in general. rather than replying to the posts made.

I'm only building my opinion on what i've been told. I'm off to an RR day in a couple of weeks and when enquiring about a map i was told it really isn't worth it with the mods i have (exhaust & matched inlets) as the gains would be minimal.

but hey... gains from the mods i've done can be minimal so i guess you could argue every little helps? i'd rather spend my hard earned on beer.

I didnt know you had to do that. I will do it when i get mine then :)

So how would you align them? sit them on, run the bolts down (but not tight) then move them by looking down the injector holes till they line up and tighten the bolts??

Im scared mine are all over the show tbh, gunna have them off tomorrow to have a look. Noob question but how easy is the fuel rail to remove? Ive not had to do it before.

why would u live map a clio sport . i have live mapped cars before but only turbo cars where it is worth it ? or that the car has had bigger injectors/turbo used so then idle needed sorting . surely a waste on a n/a where u gain about 7bhp anyway !

Its so easy mate you'll be fine. Two 10mm bolts then slid it off, Sorted

Its not a waste at all to live map a RS. or anyother car for that matter. You may not see the huge gains but theres still gains and improvements to get

but surely for the price of a live map over a re-map its a waste . theres only small amounts of play on a n/a engine anyway. had a few lessons about mapping over last 3 weeks and compared to a forced indution car there is not a lot more u can do on a live map. u h
