Bashed into kerb, steel wheel rim damaged..tyre question

  Shhh
Earlier today, bashed the clio into the kerb and damaged the rim, infact the rim was bent a little downwards pushing the tyre lip inwards a little. The tyre still held pressure and was good to drive home on.

No tyre wall damage, and tyre held its pressure. Movement inwards was very minimum, similar to that of probably fitting it, but enough to ensure that the rim is fit for the bin.

Would you replace the tyre, or fit it and see how it holds on the new rim.

Regards,

Alias

I'll personally never go halves when it comes to tires. There the most important thing, connecting you to the road and people seem to buy shabby quality part worn things and all sorts.

Imagine in that tire failed at 70mph, for the sake of 15/20 quid. ;)

£15/£20.?

What tyres do you fit.

£80 each these babies, 6mm tread left, no marks, just rim damage. Inner lip sat at a funny angle for 4-5 hours.

i run a tyre shop if there is no bulge in the sidewall and you have not cut the tyre then it will be OK as for the wheel you say its steel you should be able to straighten it out then get them to spin it on a balancer and they will be able to see if it is buckled if it isnt then all good

Running 888's or something? :approve:

Post wasn't directly focused at your situation dude, my mistake. The point I was trying to make was why do people settle for less than tires, from a buying without perspective rather than a already having and debating using POV.

40 quid ish for a decent Conti sport tire, versus 20 ish for a part worn. ;)

Keeping as a spare is a decent idea.

Basically, the rim was bashed inwards, which inturn pushed the inner lip of the tyre inwards.

Just a little, but enough to keep the seal and cause steering to become unstable.

Next question..

Where to get a 15" steel wheel rim from.

I think all renaults are the same items, £62 new from Renault. So expect about £10-20.

No scrap yards round here have some, some clown on eBay wants £45 with a part worn tyre.

  Dodgy one
I'd get a new tyre at the same time, If youve managed to damage the rim imagine what stress the tyres been put under for you to clout the rim, Could be damaged on the inside!

Personally i'd bin it and not even use it for spare
