thought it about time to get quotes for cambelt change, its a 55 plate so the 5 year is due even though its only done 23k miles.

my usual garage said theyd get back to me on price and on friday they gave me a bell at work and said that for the cambelt, aux belt and waterpump it will be just under £310!!i was expecting about £450 so well chuffed and will get it booked in asap at that price!!

whats your best price froma a garage without them owing you favours?;)

What engine have you got?

Three replies at exactly the same time! lol

What engine?

Sounds alright but last time I paid a garage to do it I think it was £200 for a 1.4 but that was 8v. Shop around a bit more first imo

Here's a hint - if Fred does it cheaper, someone else will. Although I'd still take it to Fred as he'll do it right.

Does everyone on here just assume 1.2s will be same price as the 1*2s?

true but even though fred could do it cheaper id still have petrol costs to brum from here which wont be cheap and prob end up the same amount as my quote, but like you say if he can do it cheaper then others can but then will they do it right?i dont want to go to a s**t garage thats going to do a crap job whereas the quote i got is from a garage i know will do it right so theres peace of mind in that too

wheres the best section to post to get quotes for cambelt??sorry if its a dumb question

everyone seems a fair distance from me to be honest so petrol costs are going to put the cost up to that of my local garage (ish)

Somebody will always be able do it cheaper, you could get 1000's of quotes all with different prices.

Choose somebody close to you who you trust.

Cheaper doesn't mean better.

thanks for that mate.

great advice

As Tommmmmmmm says tbh, it's all about finding someone who is priced well, but you also trust and does good work.

I for instance have all my work done at Birchdown and it's along way to travel for me.
Why? Because the are priced competitively, they are very, very good and I trust them implicitely.

There are some places I wouldn't trust to empty the ashtray.
