Yep that will be a write off, I'm not sure what category it will fall into as it has roof damage, I cant remember if that is when they go straight to cat B or A depending on the damage. Cat B can be split for parts but cat A must be crushed

  Clio 172 Replica Ph2
Cat B and c can be repaired, if you split it for parts however you might get more ? its up to you, if you love it, you'd spend the £500 or so it would be to repair it

pretty sure thats a write off am afraid, are you ok? Though if you can buy it back and sell for parts, theres quite a few quid to be made.

Cat B can't be repaired and put back on the roads mate, you've got your wires crossed its Cat C and D that can be repaired and put back on the road....atleast in the UK anyway

Well my excess is £550 (£350 vol + £200 because I'm 21 the ********) so it must have been quite a bit on top of that for them to say it wasn't worth it. I've got to phone insurance tomorrow to find out why they decided write off.

I know where it is being stored but would they let me take stuff off it before giving me my quote?

Most annoying thing is, even after I rolled it the super t's were in extremely good condition, then the guy rolled it over and dragged one side along the floor and basically sheared the face off two of them. I've had them a few years but had kept them mint.

Pic of it before accident:

I didn't say in first post but it is a 1.2 not sport. I put sport grille on. Really sad to see it go, was my first car @ 17 in 2006, learnt in it and been driving it since. At the same time I think would I want it back, a shadow of it's former self, maybe it's time to let it go and honour it with something nice, something worthy of being it's successor.

PM me the reg mate and i'll help you get a decent settlement.

As you probably know the £550 will come off your settlement figure.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
how do you work out what the settlement figure should be- is it glasses retail??

depends who the claim is going through and the condition of the car

different insurance companies and accident management companies use their own valuation matrix that the engineer has to adhere to

TBH it looks like it held up well, good job you weren't in a Saxo . . . . or a Wiliams, LOL

As Geesus said different companies work different ways. BUT and it's a big but so to speak. The finacial ombudsman takes glass' figures above any.

People should always be aware of this if they are disputing a settlement. It's not in the insurance companies interest to go to court and agrue the toss as they are fined everytime by the finacial ombudsman.

Glass' retail is usually way above market value but that's not a bad thing for the owner.

from what I understand, if the cost of repair is something like 50% of the market value of the car, it's a write off.

I was within £80 of the 172 being written off after some geriatric decided to drive into the front wheel arch (new wing, various suspension parts, paint and other sundry parts needed).

and remember, it's Market value, not CS value, or personal value

again, people who talk about percentages and whatever need to understand that different companies have different value and salvage matrix to adhere to

on my desk i have about 15 different ways to work out value and salvage depending on who the claim is going through

i could bore you all to death talking about it for hours.............. Gally would get a hard on iirc ;)

It's not Market value either to be honest, people would say the average price of a 172 on PH would be market value. That figure would be below what I and any other assessor would value the car at.

There's a general rule of thumb but then you get cars written off at 20% due to salvage values ect... that's getting in depth though.

funny story, my peugeot was crashed into, the at fault sent their own engineer to assess my vehicle

i didn't let on what i worked as, so he got his estimating system and glass's guide on his palm top, he valued it at £1600

i leaned over his shoulder and told him (in a subtle way) which optional extra's it had from factory (it had none!) and he added them on, brought the value to £2000

i then used all the tricks in the book and got another £200 out of him

and then i wanted it on a cat D so got him to butcher his estimate figures to make it happen

working in the trade ftw! lol ;)

I actually love it! I did the same for my mates 206 gti.

The assessor must have worked in Asda before he got the job. I pretty much valued it for him, my mate ended up with £900 more than Glass' retail. We had a good drink that weekend!

I'm sure his figures looked great that month!

Thanks. Any help much appreciated. Pm'd reg if you need any other details let me know.

How did you manage that?!

Went round a corner on country lane and hit some black ice. Went into a hedge that was just thick enough to stop me going through and roll me onto my roof instead. As I crawled out of my car I was helped up by the driver who had gone down the road ahead of me, hit the same black ice and narrowly missed smashing into a sign post in his new fiesta ST.

It was 6.5c and the rest of the lane was damp. Was the only patch of black ice and it was in the worst possible place.

I guess most importantly I was unhurt.

You have a right to take out the tax disc to claim it back, along with any possesions etc.

You have a pm mate, hopefully I can help somewhat.

I'm going to see it tomorrow in storage. Going to take the cd player and tax disc.

I've got my standard wheels in my garage, I might take them and see how much they are willing to let me get away with. I'm guessing I could still get something for the super t's especially the two which are still pretty mint. Would swapping the wheels affect my claim though?

Thanks for the pm gally :)
