performance increase

Hi,

I'm trying to get insurance for my 182.
I've got a quote from direct line but they want to know how much of a performance increase my cat back stainless miltek will produce before giving me a quote.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

That's what I thought but they want a value.
Said I should phone the garage that fitted it. They'll not know.
I bought it off the net and they just stuck it on.

Just say none. Perhaps if you get it re-mapped, you might have to say 1-2 HP just to keep them sweet.

from £418.70 to £701 for a 1.01% increase. its nice that is. only got that exhaust so it would last longer as it came with a lifetime guarantee for £80 more than a mild steel replacement.
So all in If I had just got mild steel and let it to rust and got a new one i would have been better off over the 3 year it was guaranteed for.
Just goes to show.
They'll rob you blind for trying to prolong the parts on your car.

If you're old enough can you not go with Sky insurance, Brentacre, Flux etc who do modified cars anyway?

The exhaust will likely give you nothing much if anything at all, it'll just prove to be a pain to insure with normal insurers.

Ha - you might have something there. I remember when I first got insured with Brentacre and they said I could do anything to the car as long as I notified them and it didn't go over 180BHP - I had to laugh!

They'll rob you blind if you do mods which are linked with higher risk drivers.

If you were doing it for prolong the life then you would have bought a good normal exhaust not a performance advertised one.

A good normal exhaust? I don't think Renault know what that means. And f**k buying a pattern one.

It's common sense (unless wanting to be totally OEM) to get a stainless exhaust instead of the rusty s**tty standard ones.

Like he says why would he lie, not everyone wants an exhaust for performance. My old neighbour had a stainless one made for his Rover 75, do you think he wanted it for performance? Doubt it.

The problem with saying the truth (next to nothing) is that the manufacturers probably claim otherwise and thats what the insurance company would ask for.


Best suggestion in this thread is to get it rolling roaded and therefore prove its not more powerful than standard.

Now Direct line only have to ring or look at Miltek's site and see they arn't an OE manurfactuer of bits there market is OK. If you rang up insurance company and said your car had racing xyz bits therte bound to ask the power increases and up the insurance accordingly. If a part is OE replacment then you don't need to tell them if you have budget remounds speed rated for the speed the car when originaly sold then you don't need to tell them same would go for semislicks,

This is what annoys me about mainstream insurance companies. They want to know from you how much power its going to make yet when you get your policy back it will simple say ''stainless exhaust'' so makes no odds.
Its just a way they make extra cash from punters.

If it was so crucial to know the bhp and performance they would ring the exhaust manufacturer themselfs to check.

Just say none. Its the truth anyway in real terms.

Insurance companies loose money on basic policies so why should they ring round for you If the parts OE you don't need to tell them anything different and its your problem not theres.

Its just says stainless etc the insurance compnay have a note of gains. ie stick a turbo on it and say it gives 10hp the policy will say its a turbo if you crash they may comne look at the 10hp turbo.

Whats written on your policy is what your insured for.

If you have stated your mods gains X amount of bhp then your policy should state this, not just generic stainless exhaust.

I'm with Brentacre and you can do what you want mod wise and it won't increase your policy only when doing cams/throttle bodies etc. I even rang and asked about a de-cat as I am going to fit one and the guy literally just said yep no problem at all. I think it depends who you are with as to how anal (lol) they are with things like mods increasing power.
