Swapping a turbo setup....

  Breaking 172 NV676
I am considering buying a clio 172 turbo to use as a donor for parts to turbo my 172 cup..

The 172 turbo has been done using a k-tec kit, but runs a k-tec low pressure turbo ecu (not gen90), which i am led to believe is a standard ecu...?

The plan is to return the 172 turbo to standard and put the kit onto my cup, so I have a couple of compatibility questions....

Will the two sumps be ok to swap? - presuming the oil return is tapped into the sump
Will the ECU's just simply swap over or is it going to be a lot more complicated.
Is there anything else that wont simply swap oveR?

I know this running this ECU on a turbo is not ideal, but I want to get it done and running so I can sell the 'ex-turbo' 172 and will improve the turbo'd cup in time.

thanks

What car is the turbo?

If its a ph1 for example the ecu wont work with electronic throttle.

You could just put an rs tuner map on it though to put it back to standard.

Yes all sumps for 172/182 are interchangable

If you do swap the ecu's (assuming they are same type) you'll need to swap the UCH and keys over too.

The turbo'd clio is a phase 2.

Am I right in thinking that my car the 172 cup is FBW and not electronic throttle? So this is potentially going to cause a issue.

If I kept the ECU's where they are could my standard ECU be mapped to run the turbo setup?

Fly by wire = electronic throttle body

Its pony and I wouldnt recomend it, but yes its technically possible if you can find someone prepared to (I think even Ktec have decided its too cowboy now though so you might struggle)

I would honestly recomend you just do it properly with aftermarket.

Ah that shows my lack of knowledge..... I wont be doing to swap myself!

So in theory I can just swap the ecu's over and the UCH and the key's and it will all work. What about the aircon/abs in the donor car would this be a case of getting a clip on the UCH and getting it turned on?

I do intend on getting OMEX in the future once I have sold the other car and the left over bits.

Yes I believe that you can swap it straight over as the ABS ecu is seperate, but I havent personally done this on a cup and a ph2 so I cant be certain, I just expect it would work as the ECU's are so similar and have the same ETB etc.

I've found people tend to say when running boost on the stock ECU that it's extremely linear, and you get a big surge of boost. Not very nice to drive I'd imagine! Even if you've saved yourself a few quid.
