A few recent problems

Hi guys,

Looking for some advice/help. First this is today i st waiting for my other half in a car park idling and my emissions light started flashing. It's been on since i got the car because of the decat but never flashed, when it happened my rev's dropped very low and sounded loke it was about to cut out? Turning it off/on again and it was fine but did the same again when i left it for a few minutes on my drive when i got home?

Secondly i think my dephaser is going, is there any visible signs so i can be sure? I know people always say from the sound but it doesn't sound too bad. Also could these problems be linked?

On cold start it sounds like a tractor but once warm you can hardly hear it, is this normal? Sorry for not being clear in the first post!

I thought the dephaser was noisy when warm and pretty silent when cold? (aka the opposite of what you've said)

Wow! Really?! You can do that?!

Actually, i was just looking for some help with it before i go throwing money at garages. If you have nothing helpful to say then please, just don't bother.
