1.5 DCI, when my right foot is to the floor the engine warning light comes on. It goes off again as soon as I stop accelerating hard. No loss of power, no other symptoms.

What I also don't want is to have to pay £400+ a year in car tax for a hobby, it is unreasonable.
Ditch the car tax, stick 2p or whatever necessary on petrol to cover the lost revenue. All nice and fair then.

With regard to the compression test, this is going to be a dead end. No garage is going to investigate it FOC, and for you to do it will cost ££.
Sure you'd be annoyed if it was a new engine that was just run in and it had a 15psi difference, but...
