Ring Doorbell

I've got one of the wired Ring ones. Its great tbh. Needs a strong WIFI signal though!

This is where I think I'm going to have to invest in a mesh network, we don't get a strong WiFi signal at the front of the house at all

I have a mesh system. Even with a mesh point on the right hand gate post, the ring on the left hand gate post, says it’s only just got enough signal.

I do get Wi-Fi in most of the village now though lol

So the blink doorbell is crap, takes an age to connect, wont connect if not connected to the same WiFi etc.

Looking at the following:

Eufy 2k doorbell
Nest doorbell
Ring doorbell 4

What does everyone have currently and any reviews?

Eufy all day long great alerts picture quality and great service if you buy direct some good offers too.

I think this may be your issue whichever one you get. I’ve got the Blink doorbell and it’s within 3m of my router and it’s been absolutely faultless.

We've got an Eufy doorbell and camera's.

App works well, batteries last well (seem to be getting about 200-250 days out of a charge with 50 recorded events a day) and the doorbell is powered via the old doorbell wiring.

One thing to note is the night vision of the doorbell isn't as good as the standalone cameras.

It's also got local storage and no monthly fees.

I'm thinking of getting a mesh network set up first and then do some testing and go from there

Mesh wise? If cost isnt an issue, eero or the unifi wifi kit. Unreal.
I have installed a few deco ones, avoid the cheap S and E models.

@Waitey did you back haul your mesh on the pillar? Would give you much better connectivity.

Deco M5. They're brilliant.
I also use Deco, think mine is the TP-LINK S4, they are nifty because they have a gigabit ethernet port on the back so TV and work computer get hardwired to the Deco which is enough for 350mb/s compared to 100ish on straight wifi. The Deco software is an absolute doddle to setup too. 3 points setup and working within 15mins tops.

Also very handy because you can block websites on specific devices - means I can block youtube on the TV and playstation and sons tablet while I can still have it on the other computers.

£100 well spent and have been happily working for over a year now.

Whats the ish with the S? They have identical spec to the M4, same software etcetc.

If I was to do it again I would probably trial the google mesh system or just buy the deco again.

Yes I think its an issue with the wood.... lol.

There's nearly 24inches of it between the Deco and the Ring.

With the old set up (Deco in the house, about 15m away) the Ring was getting RSSI-72. Now with the Deco on the Pillar its RSSI -62. Which has stopped the ring complaining about it.

I'd second that for Eero. I installed 3 Pro plus boxes, but in reality, I only use one.

I've gone from not being able to get a signal through a plasterboard wall in the next room, to now being able to pick it up 100 feet away at the bottom of the garden.

It's like somebody has multiplied my shitty M100 MB Virgin box by 4. Unreal indeed!

Does anyone have a ring hooked up to a solar panel?

The thought of having to charge a doorbell saddens me 😂 I'm wanting fit and forget.

Properly. On the fence with which to get

If you're going to the trouble of wiring it to solar, just wire it to the mains and not worry about it going flat over winter.

Ordered the eufy 2k Doorbell battery version with chime tonight as its £130 on curry's for black Friday.

Used my discount with work and it worked out to be £122 so an absolute bargain I think.

Was seconds away from ordering a ring 4 but I absolutely hate any subscription service (despite it being so little a month!)

anyone know how to turn night vision on/off on a ring doorbell 2

I’m following the below instructions but when I go into the Video settings there’s no night vision option
  1. Open your Ring app.
  2. Tap the three lines on the top left side of the screen.
  3. Tap Devices.
  4. Select the device you want to adjust.
  5. Tap Device Settings.
  6. Tap Video Settings.
  7. Tap Colour Night Vision.
  8. Tap Enable/Disable colour night vision to turn the feature on/off.

Colour Night Vision On/Off

See when I follow that route in the app I don’t get a night vision option

our doorbell is the 2nd gen of the basic doorbell. I checked with my neighbour who has a similar one and he doesn’t have the night vision option but he has a HDR option which I also don’t have.

I’ve not set our subscription up yet so will do that and see if anymore options appear

You might have posted this before, but is that the doorbell in the same place as the original doorbell? If so it does connect to the powered wires so you don't have to charge it.

Still not really a chore to charge it three times a year though, our cameras are similarly good, 155 days and still on 71% charge.

I wasn't sure myself mate but just found that you can which is pretty cool!

We had a wireless one before that the previous owner had fitted so I just unscrewed that and yeeted firmly in the bin haha

I was hoping we had some Eufy users in this thread, I was getting worried as I scrolled through that Davo was on some kind of commission 😜

I am going to look for a Eufy that can take power from the incumbent doorbell and it makes sense that short video clips of passers by are stored locally and not in the cloud. Whilst inexpensive, it just seems unnecessary and the price will only go up over time so don't really want a subscription

there's a loose manhole cover about 20 yards from our house that makes a right racket when someone drives over it. The noise it's making is activating our ring door bell (I'm assuming its the noise that's being picking up).

Anyone else had similar. I've turned the sensitivity down to try and stop happening, hopefully that'll help.

Oh and I have reported the f**k manhole cover.

I'm not expert but it might be the moving car 👀

I think I posted in here a while ago, I bought a Eufy in the end - One thing I have noticed is since I've had it, lots of people knock instead of ringing the doorbell haha

I'm still liking the TP Link doorbell camera. I've cancelled the sub and it records everything on a micro SD, I can still access footage remotely or live.

As with Ring and the others it links with Alexa just fine and having the hub inside the house which also acts as the chime is lots better than Ring. Had it fitted since 11 Oct and the battery is at 55%.

For me it has been leagues ahead of the Ring which it replaced. I replaced the Ring due to mental delays between someone hitting the button and me/Alexa getting a notification.

I first put a blink camera up, was ok and did the job but the app is laggy, slow to load and highly annoying that it won’t continuously play unless you keep hitting the ‘continue’ button when it pops up.

Put up a 2nd Gen Ring camera and immediately the difference in picture and sound quality is noticeable.

Ring doorbell (rather dull miserable weather)

The blink has this very weird interference sound when viewing live video or recordings.

P.s apologies for the 94 year old child, she likes to press the button knowing I get a notification on my phone 😂
