Where's the sticker on the dash? I'll check it.

I've heard a campus be called a ph3 before, but nothing else.

Yeah, she's wrong about the Clio 182s being labelled as Phase 3, and getting confused with the global production timeline of all Clio models (different countries). The OP was clearly asking about UK Sports production models. My understanding of the Clio production by MY.

  1. First Generation (Clio I):
    • Phase 1 (1990-1994): Introduced as a replacement for the Renault 5, this initial phase included models like the Clio Williams, noted for its performance.
    • Phase 2 (1994-1996): Minor updates including styling changes and new engines.
    • Phase 3 (1996-1997): Featured slightly more rounded headlights and other minor aesthetic changes, along with some mechanical improvements.
  2. Second Generation (Clio II):
    • Phase 1 (1998-2001): Larger than its predecessor, with more rounded styling and the introduction of new safety features.
    • Phase 2 (2001-2003): Facelift with tweaked styling and new engine options.
    • Phase 3 (2003-2005): Known as Clio Campus in some markets, this phase included further cosmetic and mechanical updates.
    • Phase 4 (2006-2008): Also known as Clio Campus, with a restyled rear end.
    • Phase 5 (2009-2012): Final updates before the model was phased out in the UK, with changes primarily to the front end.
  3. Third Generation (Clio III):
    • Phase 1 (2005-2009): Introduced with a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, featuring advanced technology for its time like a keycard instead of a traditional key.
    • Phase 2 (2009-2012): Included the introduction of a GT variant to bridge the gap between standard and sport models.
  4. Fourth Generation (Clio IV):
    • Phase 1 (2012-2016): Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, this generation focused on design and technology upgrades.
    • Phase 2 (2016-2019): A cosmetic refresh with new LED lights, bumpers, and interior updates, including new infotainment systems.
  5. Fifth Generation (Clio V):
    • Current Model (2019-present): Introduced with hybrid options and modernized aesthetics. It includes the E-Tech full hybrid, emphasizing efficiency and urban driving capabilities.

Sports versions.

  • Clio 172 (Phase 1) (2000-2001): The first officially branded Renaultsport Clio with a 2.0L engine producing 172 PS (127 kW).
  • Clio 172 (Phase 2) (2001-2002): Introduced minor updates like automatic climate control, xenon headlights, and an electric throttle.
  • Clio 172 Cup (2002): A lighter, more track-focused version without some luxury features, available in Mondial Blue or Iceberg Silver.
  • Clio 182 (Phase 2) (2004): Enhanced with an additional 10 PS (7 kW) over the 172, reaching 182 PS (134 kW). Introduced a new exhaust system with a dual exit.
  • Clio 182 (2004-2005): Added the option of the Sport chassis, which included a firmer suspension, lower ride height, and wider track. Minor cosmetic updates like new alloy wheel designs.
  • Clio 182 Cup (2004-2005): A more track-focused version with the 182's engine, available in Racing Blue or Inferno Orange, maintaining some weight-saving measures but with air conditioning.
  • Clio 182 Trophy (2005): A limited edition with only 500 units for the UK, all in Capsicum Red, featuring special Sachs dampers and Recaro seats.
  • Clio III Renaultsport:
    • Clio 197 (2006-2009): Introduced with a 2.0L engine producing 197 PS (145 kW), featuring a Cup chassis option for enhanced handling.
    • Clio 200 (2009-2012): A facelift of the 197 with minor aesthetic changes and a slight power boost to 200 PS (147 kW).
  • Clio IV Renaultsport:
    • Clio R.S. 200 EDC (2013-2016): Switched to a 1.6L turbo engine with 200 PS (147 kW), paired with a dual-clutch EDC transmission.
    • Clio R.S. 220 Trophy EDC (2015-2016): A performance upgrade with 220 PS (162 kW), lower suspension, and enhanced brakes.
    • Clio R.S. 16 (2016): A concept car with a Mégane RS 275 engine, not officially sold in the UK but showcased.
    • Clio R.S. 220 Trophy (2018-2019): Final updates with further power enhancements and handling tweaks.
  • Clio V Renaultsport:
    • Clio R.S. Line (2019-present): Although not a true Renaultsport model, it's a sportier trim level of the current Clio generation with aesthetic enhancements but without the full RS performance package.

They were right about there being further development of the Mk2 past what we got, not RS models though.

They looked weird from what I remember?

I disagree with the Mk2 Ph3 description.

I think this is a Phase 3 (note the fog surrounds)

And this is a phase 2 (fog surrounds again)

There were then multiple irritations of the Campus. The first just looked like a phase 2 (I had one). Then next was the Ph4 with the number plate in the rear bumper.

That’s my understanding of the UK market anyway. Looking farther afield, it went through a few more irritations. So God knows.

I may be wrong, but isn't the 1st pic a Dynamique and Second pic the lower spec model? I had an 04 Expression which had bumper off the second pic and my mate had an 04 Dynamique with bumper off the 1st pic.

I may be way off though

They just hodge podged them together on the transition between the two phases. I’d call the top pic a phase 2.5 and the bottom a phase 2.

The first pic is a PH3 Dynamique/Extreme4/anything that had fog lights.

a ph3 without fog lights got the older style front bumper, but will have ph3 grey insert headlights/updatelist stereo and larger screen in the centre of the dash for fuel/temp as opposed to guages.

a ph2 dynamique will have the older style bumper but with fog lights.

Our Ph3 was the Campus sport as Louis said.
PH3 was out a few years before Campus arrived
