I'm pretty crap with this kind of thing but I'm pretty sure I just switched the display setting to VR in AC and used the datalink cable and away I went. Nothing else needed.
Actually I may have done some of this...

Finally got my Meta Link working last night. Was a faff, to say the least.

I played a couple of races within AC, was f**king epic. Some lotus F1 car around Monza, f**king ace.

I put the headset down, went for a pee, came back and I couldnt get it to work for the life of me.

Headset in Link Mode.

Steam VR running.

AC Content manager open, hit 'Go' (or Race, I cant remember)

Headset would go black, game loaded on the PC, but I just kept getting some weird VR space on the headset, even though the PC was showing the game, with tracking working.

Any ideas? Sat for about 40 minutes trying to fix it but nada and gave up. Halp.

I havnt used PlayStation for ages, as the setup went into my lads room. He's been getting into drifting and rally games so we've just got him a Playseat Evolution from ebay as it was local too.

So, I had a recent 'need' for having a monitor up above the TV that my racing seat is used with.

Although I was fully expecting a Next Level Racing (NLR) tax for having an additional monitor setup, I didn't think it would be that bad. Yep - piss-takes aplenty.

I enquired with NLR and got the following back...

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Next Level Racing!

Regrettably, NLR-A011 is not compatible with any of the Elite overhead monitor stands, nor is there a product that offers this level of customisation. If you are interested in using two monitors stacked on top of each other, I would recommend considering an upgrade to the Elite Single Monitor Stand, along with the addition of the Overhead Monitor Stand.

Off I went to investigate the Elite Single monitor stand and saw it on Scan for around £250. Then, the Overhead monitor Stand was an additional £150. £400 for some box sections of tubing to mount an old monitor on? Crack-pipe smoking.

On a whim, I checked out Amazon and took a punt on one of their Amazon Basics single monitor stands - thinking that I could potentially flip it 90 degrees to the left and mount the monitor on that. At £20.97 - I gave it a go.

Next was generous mate of mine who had a spare Dell 19" flat panel in his attic, left unused. Only 60hz, but it's simply displaying info and not actual race playback. More importantly, it came with the VESA holes on the back. Slight issue - only DVI and VGA inputs - so I ordered a DVI to DP cable also, for the immense sum of £6.99.

For the grand total of £27.96, I ended up with a fully working setup via Simhub at a 14th of the NLR price. Just need to do a little bit of cable management now. :)

Bought a McLaren GT3 wheel, hard to resist at £171 delivered with a Metal QR2. Fanatec are doing free delivery before Christmas.
That is a superb wheel, though the gear change paddles could be described as a bit loud (According to the Mrs) :ROFLMAO:

I found that with it being a slightly wider wheel (vs the Formula V2.5x I also had) it felt like a good chunk of FFB was lost (I was using, at the time, it on the 8Nm DD Pro wheelbase). Its a wheel I've considered re-buying since I moved to the higher force Asetek wheelbase (though I would have to purchase an adapter kit to).

IMG_8365.jpeg

I’ve since added keyboard and mouse mounts

The spec is:

Simlab p1x pro - triple monitor, keyboard and mouse trays
Simucube 2 Pro
Ascher McLaren Pro Wheel
Heusinkveld Ultimate+ 3 Pedal set up
HRS pedal plates
3 x LG 1440p Ultragear 32GP850-B
Sabelt SRX1 Seat
Simcore UDJ2 dashboard
Other bits I’ll have forgotten

PC is mega - i7-14700F, ASUS 4080 Super ProArt, 32GB Corsair Venge DDR5 etc

I’d be after £6,250 it cost well over £10k

How do the springs work in the brake pedal? At the moment I have it setup like this with two of the softest springs but I find the ABS is triggering to easy.

If I swap out one of the springs does it make a difference if I put it at the top or the bottom? In my mind it will make no difference as the softer spring will just compress before the harder one?

So I'm after quite soft initial grab and then a stiffer last part of the braking.

I originally found the poly things were too stiff for what I was after

Just got myself an aliexpress shifter....

Actually not bad for 34 euros!
So I'm taking it apart to see how I can mod it.

Inner mechanism

As you can see it's beyond simple!
I'm thinking:
- mount a shaft on skate bearings fore-aft
- fit with torsionspring for centering
- fit its bracket to said shaft
- add bearing to bottom of lever
- maybe grind the outside of the tiny bearing to be more convex due to the lever changing angle when shifting

I have all the stuff and tools, so no cost....win right?

Enjoyed this little series the other day.

His last video on Dirt Rally 2.0 was a tidy little drive.
