So, I had a recent 'need' for having a monitor up above the TV that my racing seat is used with.
Although I was fully expecting a Next Level Racing (NLR) tax for having an additional monitor setup, I didn't think it would be
that bad. Yep - piss-takes aplenty.
I enquired with NLR and got the following back...
Hi there,
Thank you for contacting Next Level Racing!
Regrettably, NLR-A011 is not compatible with any of the Elite overhead monitor stands, nor is there a product that offers this level of customisation. If you are interested in using two monitors stacked on top of each other, I would recommend considering an upgrade to the Elite Single Monitor Stand, along with the addition of the Overhead Monitor Stand.
Off I went to investigate the Elite Single monitor stand and saw it on Scan for around £250. Then, the Overhead monitor Stand was an additional £150. £400 for some box sections of tubing to mount an old monitor on? Crack-pipe smoking.
On a whim, I checked out Amazon and took a punt on one of their Amazon Basics single monitor stands - thinking that I could potentially flip it 90 degrees to the left and mount the monitor on that. At £20.97 - I gave it a go.
Next was generous mate of mine who had a spare Dell 19" flat panel in his attic, left unused. Only 60hz, but it's simply displaying info and not actual race playback. More importantly, it came with the VESA holes on the back. Slight issue - only DVI and VGA inputs - so I ordered a DVI to DP cable also, for the immense sum of £6.99.
For the grand total of £27.96, I ended up with a fully working setup via Simhub at a 14th of the NLR price. Just need to do a little bit of cable management now.
