Still tempted to give this a try, the Quest 2 range are going up £100 from next month so time to get one might be now...

I thought we were expecting the Quest 3 now, not a big price bump on a 2 year old bit of kit

Had a completely f**king awesome experience this evening.
DCS in VR is cool as f**k anyway, flying is something you do sitting down so it works really well with VR but I thought I'd try something different.
Took off in the Chinook, stuck it in level flight cruising along, dropped the ramp, and then switched to the engineer's position in the rear cabin.
Since I have my whole living room to walk around, I have essentially just plonked myself in the back of a Chinook and it just so happened that the side seats lined up with the sofa.

Had a walk around looked out of the windows, all very cool. Walked up to the ramp and suddenly became acutely aware of the fact that the ground was a couple thousand feet below me off the edge of that ramp and genuinely had a bit of a 'ooh this is rather high' moment. Sat on the 'seats' at the back of the cabin and watched the world go by for a bit.

My MQ3 had been a bit of a novelty, bit of fruit ninja, do like the 3d puzzle game and played Arkham nights up until the fight tutorial but was sweating like a fat b**ch at a rave after.

Impressive tech but not really got the space with the kids toys about.

Next step is a DrivR golf club and Golf+ as I love my golf games

I'm considering upgrading from my Rift S. The FOV is just tiny on that, which makes it really hard to get to switches in the corners of the cockpit which are on the edges of my periphery.

Replaced a Vive with the quest 3 for assetto corsa, it's pretty smooth as long as it's connected by cable, takes a bit of setting up the first time round
Are you using a Wifi 6 router in the same room with the PC connected to it by ethernet? I was under the impression that was required.

Pc is on 10gbe fibre back to the router, over wifi the headset is fine for anything that doesn't need consistent fps, at 90-120fps the stuttering can catch you out

That's annoying. I wanted to ditch the wire. That said, 120fps ian't really a problem in DCS :ROFLMAO:

So, Quest 3S now obtained. Bon.

After HOURS of f**king about with PC settings, VR settings and so on, multiple PC crashes and various states of personal rage, ive finally got it approximately where I want it. Noice.

However, im now getting an error with Link. Ffs.

Im finding that even the slightest movement in the headset is causing the cable to move and the headset to disconnect, and then immediately reconnect. I get the pop up saying 'Enable Link?'. Which, when youre flying through Eau Rouge in triple figures, isnt ideal

Anyone got a decent solution?

Ive seen a few guys have some 3d printed clips made. Im tempted to ask @dann2707 to print me and post me one

HAHAHAHAH f**k YEAAAHHH I MADE IT WORK

f**king get in. A solid 1.5 hours on AC last night with only one crash (After I got it to work for about half an hour, I maxed out all the settings and crashed my PC lol).

Its so so good. Still definitely need some minor tweaks to get it looking how I wanted but eurgh, its so good. Being able to look 'through' an apex is so sweet too and the immersion is awesome. Can/Will loose hours on this bloody thing.

Now just to refine the setup and move it upstairs and into the spare room (currently strewn across the entire lounge, being single rocks)

Has anyone gone from the likes of the Vive 2 with the Fresnel lenses to another headset?

My VR usage is minimal due to the absolute necessity of keeping your eyes forward without the periphery view being as blurred as hell.

I just want to play a few racing games in VR without my eyesight feeling like it's 6.02am having just woken up and I didn't get in until 4am after a major beer session.

I'm really close to convincing myself to go for a Quest 3. Apparently the pancake lenses are far far better than Fresnel.
I find it infuriating using the fresnel ones because a lot of what I do is down by my side and short of turning my head 90 degrees right and tipping it 90 degrees forwards a lot of what I'm trying to get to is on the edge of my vision. Plus the Rift S is like looking through a pair of binoculars anyway :ROFLMAO:

The Quest 3 pancake lenses pretty much completely eliminate that effect. They're far superior to fresnel lenses.

I have enough JL vouchers to buy one but I just don't think I'd get enough use out of it yet. Too much money for a gadget to sit about for me! Will need to borrow my brother's to see if I will use it enough.

It is a novelty. Glad I never paid for mine, gets a few uses by the kids and every now and then I have a round of mini golf.

Sometimes hook it up to the Sim Rig but more hassle when I want to just jump right in and I've now got the 49" ultrawide OLED for that.

IMO - the Fresnel lenses are that poor, it's strange as to why they even considered using them in manufacture? It literally is like looking out at the world while sat in the middle of a lighthouse lamp. It really isn't clear at all.

Is the Quest 3 compatible with the likes of Steam for VR, do you know?

I think it was just the best they could achieve at the time. Remember VR headsets are evolving.

Yes. Steam Link for example. I'm caving and getting the Q3 as we speak lol.

Might make the swap myself? Looks like the Vive Pro 2 headset alone is around the £300 mark on eBay.

Looks like I'd have to go to the 512GB version for the pancake lenses - or else I'm just back into shitty FresnelLand with the lower models.

What do people use their VR headsets for?
95% for me is for racing games. As others have said before, it's really well suited for them as you don't physically move about the room you're in.

They massively add to the experience too - glancing across at your mirrors, naturally looking towards the apex, etc. All adds to the experience. :)
