Finally bit the bullet today.

After watching a few reviews and not being any sort of videophile I thought the best option was budget 65" OLED.

Went for the Panasonic TX-65MZ800B, at £999 significantly cheaper than the LG B3 I was looking at.

Then went for the Polk react soundbar that will tie me over for now, I'll replace that in the living room in the sales and move it into the office to replace the faulty Onkyo that I never got round to seeing why the speakers keep cutting out.

Bought our Samsung TV last year (Q80BA 65”) and been a good buy for the price. Sound on the TV was pretty good but always been after a sound bar.

Picked up this Bose setup from Currys at the weekend - first time using surround sound and what a difference. Initially had it connected via bluetooth until I discovered HDMI (eARC), night and day.

Setup is Smart Soundbar 600, Base Module 500 & 2x Surround Speakers.

Somehow convinced the Mrs we need a new TV, specifically OLED... Chucked a load of technical made up stats/words until she caved and said yes.

I plan on playing my Xbox series X on it and the obvious LG C3 comes up a lot. As the C4 is now out, I am hoping to grab a C3 77" for a decent price but they are all over the place for my quick searches... Anyone able to give me a decent price point to aim for or know where the best place and time to look/hold out until?

Parents are needing a new and first smart tv, been onto them about the LG C3 too, didn’t know about the release of C4. What are the differences if any? If can get the C3 really good price get that if it’s same sort of money as C4 may get C4

I've got proper TV envy, but when my 2 year old smears his jammy hands all over the screen, it makes me think twice about properly upgrading as I've got the wife agreeing our cheapo Samsung is sufficient but dark scenes look horrific with ghosting etc

Why sacrifice poor viewing over that reason?

We’ve never had any issues with young kids and TV’s. Also having a glass screen it wipes clean easily. Projectiles however are to be tested. But we have accidental insurance on it so no worries if it does break.

He’s currently pushing boundaries, so will sometimes give the TV a bit of a hit. I’ll probably upgrade it when he’s a year or 2 older.

In the mean time, I’ll just dream of inky blacks 😂

What's the best 55" TV out there? Specifically interesting in gaming... I've got a decent one at the moment, the second highest spec'd LG but from 2020 - Can't remember the model now, C1 or something?

Is it worth waiting for the 2025 ones to come out? To be honest I'm thinking probably not as I'm trying to bag a bargain.

You have a 55 C1 already?

I have a 55 C1 from 2020 too, I was looking at changing to a C4, I also want to upsize to 65 too though. I did come to the conclusion it's not really any better, a bit brighter but that's all. Def not worth an upgrade if you are getting the same size.

The G series is supposed to be quite the step up, brighter and better motion, but again, probably not worth an upgrade in the same size.

Regarding bargains, I think best deal in the LG trade in an old TV for £200, some people have got richer sounds to price match too on HUKD

No sorry, I have 48" at the moment. It's a bit small for me really... basically my wife maybe leaving her job at John Lewis soon so want to use her discount before she hands her notice in lol. I could just about fit a 65" on our main wall but it'd leave about 1mm either side which I think would look a bit silly!

I have a G3, if I was after a new one now it'd have to be a G5.

I'd probably take a G4 if it was a steal though.

So my 65" LG C1 (2021) packed in about 3 weeks ago, and I've just been emailed by John Lewis to say that the TV can't be repaired. So they've offered me a £1299 voucher to use in store to replace the TV.

What's the current go to TV in this price range?

John Lewis have the 65" LG C4 (2024) on offer for £1299 currently. But I've not looked at TV's since we ordered the one that's broken, and don't really have time to research options.

I'm not set on LG or OLED, but it's needs to be 65", no more than £1300 ideally, and from JL.

What happened to your C1? That's what I have and I hope to get many more years out of it tbh. Got mine from Richer sounds which had a long warranty at least but even that's only going to go so far.

I'd second going for the C4 - Amazing TV. I love when warranties pan out that way. Unfortunately for me, it's always 2-3 months AFTER it expires my items go kapoot!

I'd also go for a C4, or maybe upgrade to a G3/G4.

What was up with it, I'd love my CX to break under warranty so I can upgrade to a 65.

Randomly didn't turn on one evening. Engineer reckons it need a new screen, as one of the boards he suspected was the issue can only be offered with the screen. I did Google to try and find some cost of replacement, as I was hoping a new TV would be the outcome, and I couldn't find much, but suggested cost were 4 figures.

I’d just go for the C4.

I figured that would probably be the case, but worth asking in case things had changed.

Don't really want to put anymore money in to the TV. To be honest I'm a little annoyed this one has only lasted 3.5 years. First time I've bought a TV that isn't classed as a budget price and its lasted the least amount of time.

That's such a good goodwill gesture by them isn't it! Or did it have extended warranty? I've had mine since 2021 and still blown away by it tbh

John Lewis gives a standard 5-year warranty with all their TV's, which was the main reason I ordered from them.

I've not read their terms and conditions fully, but it states:

If we can't repair your product, we'll replace it with the same model, or a model with an equivalent specification, in a small number of cases this may be a manufacturer approved refurbished or a remanufactured unit. If no equivalent product is available, we'll either offer you the nearest equivalent specification or its selling price value refunded on a John Lewis E-gift card. The maximum refund will be the price you paid. Regardless, we'll always do our best to make sure you're satisfied with the outcome.

I've had some very good, and very bad experiences with John Lewis customer service! Glad this sounds like a good one for you.

I was looking to get a new screen in the bedroom, but instead bought a £40 projector off AliExpress and seriously impressed with it for the money! Obviously not in terms of quality compared to the C1 but everything else gets a tick.

Customer service was s**t to be honest. It's taken 3 weeks for me to get a voucher so that I could order a replacement TV.

So because we'd paid using the Finance option, JL said they'd only issue the voucher to the finance company and that I'd need to chase them up to get the voucher issued to me. Which I was not happy about, and asked them why this needed to be the process, as the finance was taken out over 18 months, and had been paid off over 2 years ago, so nothing was owed. I was just concerned I'd be dealing with another s**t customer service team and i'd be lost for weeks. JL said they would speak with the finance company and see what they could do, and email me the outcome within 24 hours. I never heard anything back and have had to phone them 3 times chasing.

Today, I phoned again and got the same response, but the woman I spoke with ended up processing the voucher when I was on hold (she said she'd phoned the finance company and they'd confirmed I'd need to speak with them to get the voucher). Well, I got an email when I was still on the phone with her with the voucher code. So placed an order for the TV straight away - Clearly they don't know how their own system works, as it came straight to me.

Was tempted to order the G4, as it was only £200 more, but a quick look at the reviews on JL, and it had a much higher percentage of 1 star reviews, so figured it wasn't worth the risk. And I'm sure from the reviews I've seen, the C4 will be a decent step up from the C1 we've been using. If I can even tell the difference

So 65" C4 ordered with a fresh 5 year warranty. Hopefully, this time I'll not need to use it.

Noticed Richer Sounds were selling the 65" C4 for £100 less than JL, so thought I'd take my chances and submit a price match. Pretty cheekily, but got to be done right?

Just got an email confirmation that they're going to give me a £100 refund. I was half expecting them to refuse to be honest. Good timing, as we're about to order the kids new beds and mattresses from JL
