Yay, another problem!

Went to get my tyre replaced this morning.

Got home and noticed water pouring out of the car and steaming from the bay.

Just about to jack it up and take a look.

Thoughts ?

That’s a lot of water coming out mate! No coolant pipes at the back of the engine except for heater matrix. Can’t distinguish which side it’s coming from, but could stat housing, heater pipes or water pump.

Its a gusher so should be pretty easy to find. If not fill with water and pressure it up

If you want to use it before fitting new hoses, chop pipe and stick a bit of copper pipe in to join.

Straightforward enough, some of the pipes are a pita to get off but if you don’t care about keeping them can just cut them.

Has anything sharp been rubbing on that? or even if it was a small hole would the pressure then make it look so much worse?

Nothing in the vicinity mate.

I would guess it’s just fatigue (20 odd year old hoses)

You could wrap that with PTFE tape and put some plastic padding on it. Should work.

Set of snips or careful cut with a dremel.

Id not disturb the fittings off the heater as the o rings are most likely shagged with age. If the fittings need moving or weep after a bit of movement, new set of 4x 20mm x 2.5mm o rings sorts them out.

I've a set of those connectors i can pull off the matrix if needs be.

You don’t remove the rings, the pipes unclip. It’s pretty straight forward once you’ve figured it out. Very much like the fittings on the carbon canister pipe that goes to the inlet.

Here's the bleed port on the thermostat housing,

When you have the new pipes on, remove the 10mm bolt fill with coolant and then start and run it until coolant flows out, bolt back in and test drive up to temp and re check level.

Need to chop the oem clips off for silicone hoses. Mine are jubilee clipped onto the original fittings.

Hi Matt having the same issue with Florence so I'm considering whipping the heater out which does not fill me with happiness given the heat outside. I got the top hose off with brutality and tried the same route with the bottom hose but to no avail.

I just snipped the metal clips and pulled it off from memory

Depends which hoses you go for…. The ones I got (mtec) do yes. Some are for use without the couplers

Got the lower hose off now, once again with brutality. Sized up the hose on the coupler and it looks like it could okay. Thanks for your help, Florence is just an awkward customer but at least the heater can stay in situ. Result!!
