What have you done to your car today ???

Took it down for an air-con cleanse because it smelled (it had been little used by the PO for quite a while) and then got it in the air to try and work out what to do with the poorly fitting exhaust. It's secure enough, but leaking at 3 joints. Also did a noise measurement and was pleasantly surprised with a static measurement of <90 dB at 5500 rpm. Maybe it's not as loud as I think it is.

Chrome shite on my car (done the window surrounds ages ago, and finally got round to doing the grill surround) looks good to be fair. I just wonder how it's going to hold up with a jet wash and brush scrub... we'll find out soon hopefully.

I had a flaky b pillar trim on my old A3, a quick scotchbrite and couple of coats and it lasted fine. I was a bit more careful with the jet wash around it but aside from that it held up quite well.

Thanks, hopefully be okay. Only annoying thing is I scratched a couple of really small sections and I don't really see how I can touch it up easily? The marks are like 1mm!

Washed it and removed the warning stickers from the drivers & passenger side glass (any mk2 owner will tell you about them as the only part that doesn't fade is the Renault lettering) as they had faded, such a small thing but worth it!

Prep for Knockhill, just a checkover and a service. It shows how s**t the cars are when it's easiest to get the oil filter off by removing the front bumper.

Absolute cretins deciding that the oil filter needs a coolant hose right below it.

Went to my mates to get my B'Day cake and to wash the car.

Had the shoddy centre section with bodged in cat replaced with 1 fully welded piece including a new sports cat.

Prepped the inside of the passenger door for the door card to go back on. Got rid of 95% of the butyl tape residue and reapplied the fresh stuff to the inside of the door card with the protective tape still in place. Wiped it down and added some protective grease on the inside of the spring mechanism of the door handle.

Electrical taped all the shitty coatings that were left on the wires and added new mounting grommets for the speakers. Strangely, I only had three in place - and as the old ones are pretty tight in there anyway, I assume that it was never fitted by the factory? Anyways, the replacement Mitsubishi items fit perfectly and have a small sealing washer to them that the OEM Renault ones don't. Small push with the handle end of a screwdriver clicks them home in place.


Will be removing the OEM door card clips as well with the fresh set below.


Wanted to get the passenger door done today and the driver's side tomorrow. But the weather here is changing on a whim. Just wish it would stop with the random rain showers.

Pushes my buttons slightly that from the factory, the inside of the door is not fully painted black also. I know no-one would see it, but I know its not been done. I'd rather the additional 58.24grams of paint to be added each side and hidden behind the door cards, than not.

Busy weekend.

Trip down to Danny Afro's to get his 197 engine converted kangoo up and running.

I bench read the immobiliser chip on the 197 ecu a while back and created my own virgin immobiliser file. I reverse engineered my own immob and wrote the hex file to suit. This was a bit of a gamble as talking to knowledgeable people, s3000 can be hit and miss to virgin..this is why immobiliser swap is done between ecu's on meglio swaps as its the more reliable approach. As it was diesel kangoo and total different ecu its not possible to simply clone data, but with my own kangoo working ok it seemed more than doable as basically same ecu as megane2rs.

With this done i went to Danny's to sync the 197 immobiliser to the diesel uch.

Ten mins work on Renolink. The software said ecu was not protected and ready to go, hit the key to test crank and it f**king started straight up. Amazing really as it was totally untested.

Fair play to Danny, hes done a great job building it.





Took it out for a test run and went well. Good buzz seeing an untested project fire up.

Bet these mini kangoo’s don’t come up for sale very often.

Dont see them very often now as only for sale for a short period over here. Loads of merc sl though.
